Moving on to class 2A in the state of Indiana, we touch on a few kids that may have slipped under the radar for us here at PD. In this case, these four athletes are fully visible and can only be described as overachievers after their showings this past season.

[player_tooltip player_id="125541" first="Sydney" last="Stutsman"], ’22, 5-6 S, Fairfield

In short, Sydney is a gym rat, through and through. Her hands are high and quick, she can locate any set in any tempo she wants, and always seems to create spaces in the block with her deception. As the starting setter in a 5-1 for the last three years, it’s clear to this author that she can run an offense herself, or possibly be a three-rotation 6-2 option as well. 2497 assists later, there should be no doubt as to what her abilities are.

Daya Greene, ’23, 5-4 DS/L, Madison-Grant

An exceptional option at libero for the next level, Daya should be viewed as such, despite her all-around volleyball acuity. Being a starter for two seasons on a 30-win-per-season team proves that, and after passing the 1000-dig plateau, the school record is in sight.

[player_tooltip player_id="148791" first="Allison" last="Daves"], ’23, 5-10 RS, Scecina

Allison is a lefty right side that can hit all shots and all angles from both pins. A team without seniors needed a leader, and Allison clearly stepped in by example. Her team lead in kills (~4 per set), hitting percentage (.351) and blocks proved as such, and she even stepped in as a 6-2 setter as well. All-around volleyball IQ is a rare trait in our era of specialization, and Miss Daves will make some college coach happy in the fall of ’23.

Taylor Baker, ’22, 5-7 S, Winchester

Here’s another 5-1 setter from closer to Ohio than Muncie that earned all-state honors. In her one season of starting, Taylor averaged 9 assists per set while also leading the roster in aces and finishing third in digs.
