Let’s take the time today to talk briefly about five athletes that earned all-district honors this fall. Each of these kids were key players in their teams’ successes.

Laine Schlicher, ’22, 5-7 S, Crawfordsville

For a team filled with senior leadership, no senior was more important to the Athenians that Laine. Amassing nearly 2000 assists in her three varsity seasons, this young lady is no stranger to winning at either the high school or club level. I like her footwork and consistent ball placement for her hitters.

Maicee Sterrett, ’23, 5-5 DS/OH, Frankfort

If I could, I would put the positions above in the same space. All 5-5 of this spitfire led the Hot Dogs in kills AND digs this season, while also being a primary passer. Most likely projecting to be a DS at the next level, Maicee two club seasons and one more high school season to really refine her serve receive.

Kencia Levasseur, ’22, 5-6 DS/OH, Washington

In her three seasons of play, Kencia improved from three rotation OH to six-rotation OH to six-rotation primary passing OH for the Hatchets. Finishing second on the team in kills and first in digs, this smart and strong thumper on the left pin will make an impact somewhere as a hybrid that can do any of the three positions listed above.

[player_tooltip player_id="85940" first="Rachel" last="Williams"], ’23, 5-7 OH, West Lafayette

What. A. Season. At 28-3, the Red Devils’ only loss to a 3A team all year was to state finalist Bellmont. Rachel had a major role in her squad’s success, and will be expected to lead offensively with the graduation of [player_tooltip player_id="85818" first="Tori" last="Woods"]. She will most certainly pass 1000 kills next fall, as her heavy arm and springy jump will be much needed to return to the semi state. Athleticism will be key for the Red Devils moving forward, and Miss Williams has no problem being a captain by example.

[player_tooltip player_id="167493" first="Kaiden" last="Harrington"], ’23, 6-3 MB, Edgewood

Is there such a thing as a quiet 20-win season? The Mustangs certainly proved it, and Kaiden was the leader. Her 1000 kill plateau came this fall, and will most likely reach 1500 before her career is done. She can hit from anywhere, and her length and vision helped amass most, if not all, of those kills. Interestingly enough, she was also asked to be in serve receive a little more this fall, which allows her to attack more on the pins when the pass is awry. Of the five on this list, Kaiden is the most college-ready, and still has another high school season and two club seasons to go.
