It’s time! The high school volleyball season enters a pivotal moment in the state of Texas with the start of the playoffs and us, at Prep Dig, will be following all the action just like you.

After nearly three months of regular season, only the best teams of each district remain in contention and from now on, there’s no more room for errors as a setback will mean the end of the season and, for the many seniors, spread across the Lone Star state, the ending point of their high school careers.

This week will feature the bi-district and area matches and we’ll use this space to recommend a match to watch every day of action, as we’ve done during the season.

The Class 6A meeting between Marcus and Boyd, in the Dallas area, is our suggestion for Tuesday, November 2:

Marcus vs Boyd – 6.30pm

It’s not common for bi-district matches to reunite two high-profile teams as these are, so make sure you don’t miss it when it happens. The Lady Marauders from the Marcus High School in Flower Mound have sent a strong message by finishing second in the Region I, District 6 with 12 wins and two losses – their overall campaign shows a 29-7 win record. The Lady Broncos from the Boyd High School out of McKinney were very similar when it comes to results, ranking second in the Region I, District 5 with a 10-2 win record and ending the regular season with a 24-6 campaign.

Players to Watch – Marcus

[player_tooltip player_id="87471" first="Ifenna" last="Cos-Okpalla"] – Middle Blocker – Club: Madfrog – 2022

One of the most athletic and efficient middle blockers in the entire state, [player_tooltip player_id="87471" first="Ifenna" last="Cos-Okpalla"] does a great job in dominating the net for Marcus. The 6’2” prospect jumps well and has one of the quickest arms you’ll ever see in the middle. Her blocking is also excellent as she successfully combines all her physical tools with a superior reading of the game. Cos-Okpalla has been a key piece for Marcus this season, having produced 244 kills and a team-high 125 blocks. She ranks seventh on our 2022 Prep Dig State Rankings and will play for Texas A&M at the collegiate level.

[player_tooltip player_id="151758" first="Maggie" last="Boyd"] – Outside Hitter – Club: 692 Beach - 2022

A fantastic beach volleyball player who has committed to continue her career on the sand at the prestigious UCLA, [player_tooltip player_id="151758" first="Maggie" last="Boyd"] has been using her extremely well-rounded game to help Marcus thrive this season. A very respected leader within the team, the 5’10” outside hitter ranks in the top three in the squad in every skill she possibly could, leading in kills (550) and digs (454), placing second in passes (622) and aces (54) and third in blocks (48). She ranks 74th on our 2022 Prep Dig State Rankings.

Players to Watch – Boyd

[player_tooltip player_id="151755" first="Hannah" last="Billeter"] – Outside Hitter – Club: Skyline – 2022

[player_tooltip player_id="151755" first="Hannah" last="Billeter"] is Boyd’s high-volume scorer. A 5’11” outside hitter, she has the always fruitful combination of a tremendous leaping ability, a heavy arm and the ability to hit in any direction. Very long and powerful, Billeter has produced impressive 414 kills for the Lady Broncos this season and also stands out for her backcourt skills as she ranks second in digs with 360 and third in passes with 233. She ranks 69th on our 2022 Prep Dig State Rankings.

[player_tooltip player_id="140401" first="Avery" last="Calame"] – Outside Hitter – Club: Madfrog - 2022

One of Boyd’s strengths is certainly their outside hitter duo that combines Billeter and [player_tooltip player_id="140401" first="Avery" last="Calame"] at the pin. They both bring similar value to the team in the sense that are the Lady Broncos’ leading scorer while also thriving on the backcourt, but do it in different ways. A left-handed outside hitter on the left, the 5’11” Calame is hard to stop due to her uncommon angles and leaping ability and is slightly superior on the backcourt. She had tallied 305 kills (her career total has recently surpassed 1,000), a team-high 447 digs and 262 passes. Ranked 76th in our Prep Dig State Rankings, she’ll continue her career at Arkansas.
