Our 2022 club season spotlight series is on the move. We’ve just covered a handful of Premier teams, and now it’s time to venture out for a moment and see what VCNebraska has planned for this year.

VCN regularly pulls in some of the best talent from the Lincoln area and beyond. This club always seems to save their best moments for the pressure-packed environment of nationals, so I’m excited to see how things turn out in 2022.

18 Elite is first on our agenda today. This veteran group has grown accustomed to winning at a high level, and that trend ought to hold firm.

Stars of the Lincoln Metro

I just alluded to VCN’s pull with Lincoln athletes, so let’s give a shoutout to a few of the players that will represent the Star City area.

The middle blocker position is a good place to start. [player_tooltip player_id="58777" first="Regan" last="Haith"] and [player_tooltip player_id="88299" first="Alexis" last="Gates"] are both Lincoln natives who have made a big impact with VCN over the years. Their physicality at the net will continue to be an asset as 18 Elite pursues more accolades in 2022.

Another spot that is similarly stacked with Lincoln-area talent is setter. I’m fresh off of watching [player_tooltip player_id="58796" first="Hannah" last="Allick"] compete at the AVCA Phenom Showcase here in Columbus, and she has an opportunity to put her skills on further display during the club season. She is joined on this team by [player_tooltip player_id="58801" first="Karli" last="Symonsbergen"], who has been a steady, major contributor for Lincoln Southwest.

Libero [player_tooltip player_id="58797" first="Karsen" last="VanScoy"] joins Allick on 18 Elite to form a formidable Waverly duo that has found plenty of success on the high school side. Their on-court connection is bound to shine through at VCN.

Small-Town Representation

Aside from all the Lincoln stars, we’ve got plenty of smaller schools represented on this 18 Elite roster. Their impact will be anything but small, though.

[player_tooltip player_id="58791" first="Masa" last="Scheierman"] has always been a fun athlete to follow. The outside hitter from York has regularly posting big numbers throughout her prep career, and she’ll look to do it one more time before transitioning to South Dakota State next fall.

[player_tooltip player_id="58803" first="Jordie" last="Nekl"] and Lily McCroden are two small-town ball control experts that I’m anxious to see on a club court again. McCroden showed her hitting prowess with Sutton this fall, too, so she could give this team a variety of services.

Speaking of hitting, [player_tooltip player_id="58771" first="Shayla" last="Meyer"] is back for another club campaign. This terminal outside hitter showed her willingness to take a high volume of swings with Superior in 2021, and her senior season should be a great launching point to her time 18 Elite.

Finally, we have to recognize the small-town talent who is infiltrating VCN from outside Nebraska’s state lines. Maddie Lewis joins the fray from Treynor, Iowa, and, like many of the other athletes on this team, can play in either the frontcourt or backcourt.

That kind of versatility may be the key to VCNebraska’s push to the top with 18 Elite.
