As we continue our rankings countdown a reminder of the groundwork. Rankings are never perfect and are subjective by nature. These rankings are heavily weighed based on CIF and state playoff results. Except in a rare instance, a team will not be ranked ahead of a team it lost to in CIF or state. There may be an example of a team losing to the same opponent in CIF then beating that team in state and in that instance the state victory usually takes precedent. We tried hard to follow the results chain as closely as possible but in a sport like volleyball with tournament play during the regular season, those results can create more questions than answers.

11. Lakewood (24-5, Southern Section)
Season Highlight(s): CIF State Open Division Round 1 (lost to Cathedral Catholic); CIF Southern Section Division 1 Quarterfinalist (lost to Vista Murrieta); Moore League champion
Key Graduates: OH [player_tooltip player_id="161766" first="Laura" last="Williams"]; MB [player_tooltip player_id="161765" first="Keke" last="Hall"]
Key Returners (grade this fall): OH [player_tooltip player_id="161764" first="Samarah" last="DaCoud"] (Jr); MB Jade Epps (Jr)
2022 Outlook: n/a

12. Menlo School (29-7, Central Coast)
Season Highlight(s): CIF State Open Division Quarterfinalist (lost to St. Francis); CIF Central Coast Section Open Division Finalist (lost to Archbishop Mitty); West Bay-Foothill League champion
Key Graduates: S [player_tooltip player_id="162792" first="Hanna" last="Hoffman"]; OH Kami Israelski; OH [player_tooltip player_id="159948" first="Simone" last="Adam"]; OH Sharon Nejad; L/DS Hallie MacDonald; S Zoe Gregory
Key Returners: RS [player_tooltip player_id="160982" first="Cleo" last="Hardin"] (Soph); OH [player_tooltip player_id="160368" first="Brooke" last="Dombkowski"] (Jr)
2022 Outlook: It’s going to take some work for the Knights to have the same type of season or better next fall. The lineup is going to be retooled after losing three of the four top kill leaders and their setting duo. Hardin is the bright spot among returners, as she finished second in kill and hit over .300 for the season.

13. Hillsdale (27-3, Central Coast)
Season Highlight(s): CIF State Division 1 Finalist (lost to Harvard-Westlake); CIF Central Coast Section Open Division Quarterfinalist (lost to St. Francis); Peninsula-Bay League champion
Key Graduates: OH [player_tooltip player_id="159978" first="Jessica" last="Dean"]; OH [player_tooltip player_id="159497" first="Victoria" last="Vanos"]; RS Sahara Daily; OH Sophia Makarewycz; L/DS Gewn Wong
Key Returners: S [player_tooltip player_id="160902" first="Rianna" last="Liu"] (Jr)
2022 Outlook: Liu will be the Fighting Knights’ top returning player and may have to play a dual role next fall setting and hitting. That’s because the team loses a ton of offense. There are no returning players that recorded at least 100 kills, so it’s going to be brand new attack for Hillsdale.

14. La Costa Canyon (30-13, San Diego)
Season Highlight(s): CIF State Division 1 Round 1 (lost to Mater Dei); CIF San Diego Section Open Division Finalist (lost to Cathedral Catholic); Coastal League co-champion
Key Graduates: OH/RS [player_tooltip player_id="159974" first="Avry" last="Tatum"]; S Jillian Assand; OH [player_tooltip player_id="161489" first="Kailyn" last="Jager"]; RS [player_tooltip player_id="161492" first="Mackenzie" last="Piester"]
Key Returners: OH Jaidyn Jager (Fr); S Madisyn Parady (Fr); MB [player_tooltip player_id="160339" first="Eva" last="Rohrbach"] (Jr)
2022 Outlook: It’s a bit of a mix bag for the Mavericks, who lose half of their setting duo and one of the kill leaders in Tatum. The upside though is the other half of the setting duo was a freshman in Parady and she’ll return along with another freshman in Jager. Jager led LCC in kills and digs and will obviously be a centerpiece next fall. Another key returner is Rohrbach, who led the way in blocks and was third in kills.

15. Sierra Canyon (24-8, Southern)
Season Highlight(s): CIF State Division 1 Semifinalist (lost to Harvard-Westlake); CIF Southern Section Division 1 Quarterfinalist (lost to Mater Dei); Gold Coast League champion
Key Graduates: RS Sidney Montgomery; S Natalie Younan; L/DS Nala Henderson
Key Returners: S [player_tooltip player_id="161286" first="Sade" last="Ilawole"] (Soph); OH [player_tooltip player_id="160967" first="Danica" last="Rach"] (Soph); RS [player_tooltip player_id="160313" first="Olivia" last="Babcock"] (Jr); MB [player_tooltip player_id="160360" first="Ava" last="Hewitt-Smith"] (Jr); L/DS Lauren Lynch (Fr); MB Madeline Way (Soph)
2022 Outlook: With the pieces coming back, the Trailblazers should be on an upswing next fall and perhaps one of the best teams in So Cal. The top four kill leaders – Rach, Babcock, Way and Hewitt Smith – are all back. So is their setter in Ilawole and the dig leader in Lynch.
