Here is Part 4 of 4 of the player evaluations that came out this week on the 2023 performers. Click on the link for Part 1, Part 2 or Part 3.
Players listed in alphabetical order
Evelynn Rybicki, S Freeland/Michigan Elite: One of the standout setters, Rybicki definitely made plays look effortless at times. She didn’t get caught up in trying to look flashy, just consistently made great sets without a lot of effort. She had a lot of calm on the floor and consistently got her setters in advantageous positions.
Anneliese Schriber, RS Troy Athens/Michigan Elite: Schriber had a lot of explosiveness at the net and good arm speed. But, it was her effort in the back row that also caught my eye. She was really hustling to plays and keeping her teammates in-system.
Natalie Serafinski, MH Grand Blanc/Michigan Elite: Serafinski was another player that really interacted well with her coaching. She took in the advice and was quick to make the adjustments, which led to her getting more successful as the day went on. Already a strong blocker, Serafinski made some nice strides with her hitting at the expo.
Neele’ge’ Sims Neele’ge’ Sims 6'1" | MB Corunna | 2023 State MI , MB Corunna/Michigan Elite: Sims was one of the more impressive middles on the day for the 2023 class. She quickly adapted her play based on what she was presented defensively. Sims placed her shots all over the court to great success, but was also very timely with her blocks and defensive reads.
Nicole Sisk, RS Lake Fenton/Five:1: “Cola” was definitely a noticeable left-handed power arm at the expo. Sisk got a big approach to the net and had a big wind up, but when she connected it was usually the end of the point. Sisk was quick on her feet and able to take a dig and still finish with an attack.
Alexis Smith, L/DS Anchor Bay/Legacy: Smith had a lot of confidence on the floor and from the service line. She’s very comfortable in her role and able to get the ball to her setter consistency on serve receive. She’s got the fight and energy level to be a successful defender at the next level.
Mia Swierbut, L/DS Grand Haven/ISO: Another promising defender in this class, Swierbut was very scrappy and eager to take on the tough attacks. If she can maintain that same energy while improving on her serve receive, she is going to develop into a great defender.
Madison Stevenson, OH Grand Blanc/Michigan Elite: Stevenson did a good job creating problems with her blocking ability. While she needs to be more consistent with her finishing ability on her attacks, the skill level is there. She just needs to keep putting in the work.
Margo Sudzina Margo Sudzina 5'6" | S Notre Dame Prep | 2023 State MI , S Notre Dame Prep/Michigan Elite: Sudzina is already accustomed to working with a lot of great hitters at NDP, so this expo was right in her wheelhouse. She was as steady as it came at the position, and continued to show advanced defensive play as well. Sudzina kept everything running very smoothly when on the floor and she never showed any signs of distress.
Kendall Sullivan, S Blissfield/Premier Academy: Sullivan was a really aggressive player and had a good feel for when it was her time to play a dump or take command. One area that she also impressed was with her swings. For a 5’6” setter, Sullivan shows a lot of athleticism and explosiveness on her attacks.
Paige Zuehlke, OH Port Huron/Infinity: Zuehlker has good size and power for the position, but she does need to turn up the intensity more consistently. When she put a good swing together, she could hold her own with anyone. She just needs to tap into that more often. She’s already got a lot of the intangibles to be successful on both sides of the net.
