It’s time to start digging into club season!

Teams are already in the mix for the new year and we are going to be looking at a lot of different teams from around the state in the weeks to come.

We start over at Legacy, where they produced another national champion in 2021, alongside with a No. 1 ranking at season’s end.

Here’s a look at their top squads for the 18’s and 17’s.

18-1 ADIDAS

The 2020 club season with filled with a lot of adversity for this squad. Coach Bryan Lindstrom is hoping this year’s squad can avoid the injury bug and reach its full potential after still scrapping its way to a top-25 spot nationally in 2021. It’s a loaded squad as one would expect.

Leading the way are some very strong middles in [player_tooltip player_id="24870" first="Serena" last="Nyambio"] (Michigan), [player_tooltip player_id="24843" first="Cari" last="Bohm"] (Illinois) and [player_tooltip player_id="137572" first="Elizabeth" last="Adams"] (Connecticut). All standing 6’2” or taller, it gives Legacy a lot of size to work with offensive and defensively.

On the outside, [player_tooltip player_id="24881" first="Sydney" last="Tomlak"] (Duke), [player_tooltip player_id="24852" first="Jada" last="Divita"] (Lipscomb), [player_tooltip player_id="24847" first="Audrey" last="Brown"] (Fordham) and [player_tooltip player_id="24857" first="Bianca" last="Giglio"] (Marshall) are all top-level finishers with great all-around games. Their athleticism will compliment the middles very well. [player_tooltip player_id="24869" first="Nyla" last="Muskovin"] (Eckerd) is also joining the group this year, giving the team even another technically-sound hitting and defensive option.

[player_tooltip player_id="24875" first="Karlee" last="Stoll"] (Ferris State) and [player_tooltip player_id="60856" first="Lauren" last="Lee"] (Hope) will handle the setting duties and be able to play with a lot of speed to feed this deep bench of hitters. Defensively [player_tooltip player_id="24855" first="Jacoby" last="Flynn"] (Kent State) and [player_tooltip player_id="24860" first="Summer" last="Jidas"] are very reliable veteran liberos that have been up against the best of the best in the state and throughout the country.

17-1 ADIDAS

This squad was ranked tops in the nation in 2021 and expectations aren’t going to change much for them this year either. Coached by Jennifer Cottrill, this group has a lot of chemistry and not a weak spot in the lineup. They certainly will get everyone’s best in 2022, but should be ready to take their game to another level.

Leading the way is [player_tooltip player_id="66319" first="Harper" last="Murray"] (Nebraska), considered by many to be the top player in the Class of 2023 nationally. She’s going to be joined on the outside by [player_tooltip player_id="66309" first="Nina" last="Horning"] (Cincinnati), an even-growing talent that has added a lot to her overall game in the last year. [player_tooltip player_id="66292" first="Rebecca" last="Apsey"] has been a real spark plug for this squad the past two years and that shouldn’t change this year either. The team is also adding Kamryn Hunt, a 6’2” outside from Northview, Ohio. She played up an age group last year and can touch well over 10’. She added another dimension to this talented group of outsides.

[player_tooltip player_id="66325" first="Abigail" last="Reck"] had a real breakout season last club year and returns as an All-American middle that played outside during the prep season for Northville. [player_tooltip player_id="66291" first="Laurece" last="Abraham"] (Yale) is also a very improved player in the last year that stands 6’2” and touches 10’4”. She will be a big asset this year. [player_tooltip player_id="66302" first="Olivia" last="Gardner"] (Loyola Chicago) joins the squad as a middle this year. She’s a natural blocker that gives Legacy a lot of options.

[player_tooltip player_id="66313" first="Erin" last="Kline"] (Mississippi State) has run the offense for this squad for years and is eager to showcase her talents after a quiet prep season. Kline has a great connection with this roster of hitters and has 6’2” size that is paired with a lot of athleticism. [player_tooltip player_id="108719" first="Eve" last="Martin"] is a new addition that can play setter, outside or DS for Legacy. Her ability to shine anywhere on the court again gives this squad flexibility.

[player_tooltip player_id="66340" first="Sarah" last="Vellucci"] was the real unsung hero for this team last year, playing at an elite level as a libero despite being used primarily as an outside in prep season. She turned a lot of heads and now is part of a deep back row with [player_tooltip player_id="66308" first="Kaitlyn" last="Hoffman"] and [player_tooltip player_id="110323" first="Lexi" last="Smith"]. All three are great athletes that play with tremendous poise and instincts.
