The Michigan Sports Academy has reasons to be excited about the 2022 club season.

MVA is packed with a lot of size and athleticism on their featured teams this year. They look to have the right mix of power and technical skill to be a force against anyone in the region.

Here’s a look at what MVA brings to the court from their top 18’s and 17’s squads.

18 Black

This squad has a lot of size and power up front. [player_tooltip player_id="24853" first="Evelyn" last="Doezema"] (Michigan State) returns to the club this year and will be a dominant outside for the team. Standing 6’3” and touching 10”2”, she can finish from anywhere on the floor. [player_tooltip player_id="24851" first="Brooklyn" last="Conner"] (Clemson) will be a great compliment in the middle, standing 6’3” as well, while touching 10’3”. Grace Baselton will be an option on the outside and middle as well. The 6’1” hitter is unsigned but jumping head first into the club fold this year and eager to prove herself. Abigail Zylstra (Palm Beach Atlantic) and [player_tooltip player_id="92236" first="Josie" last="Teslaa"] (Hillsdale) also provide hitting options on the outside, but both can play multiple positions, including setter for TeSlaa. [player_tooltip player_id="60837" first="Ava" last="Young"] is another force in the middle for 18 Black as well. She has a great connection with setter [player_tooltip player_id="137571" first="Mackenzie" last="Delacher"] (Florida Tech) who played with Young at Rockford. Delacher knows how to run a fast offense and spread the ball out effectively. Defensively, [player_tooltip player_id="60834" first="Sierra" last="Nausieda"] (Notre Dame College) is dealing with a minor injury right now, but will sure up a great back row that features [player_tooltip player_id="137574" first="Alina" last="Anderson"] (Ferris State) from Rockford and Isabelle Miedzianowski. When it comes to the net, MVA should be able to hold its own with most anyone in the state. The key will be its passing and serve receive. If Delacher can get clean passes to run the offense, it should be a strong club season for this squad.

17 Black

This year’s squad is working in a pair of 2024 prospects that have a lot of big-match experience already. 2024 setter [player_tooltip player_id="110292" first="Zoey" last="Dood"] is a 6’3” setter that can touch 10’3” and is a real shining star for the class. She will be joined by 2024 defender [player_tooltip player_id="110279" first="Gianna" last="Bender"], who comes from a talented defensive family and has the same athleticism and competitive fire that we’ve seen from that name before. Bender is joined by [player_tooltip player_id="108758" first="Kate" last="Hotaling"] and Isabelle Cole in the back row for some high-level passing and ball control. Elizabeth MacIntosh will also be part of that, as a standout outside with great defensive ability. [player_tooltip player_id="66324" first="Shelby" last="Porter"] and [player_tooltip player_id="108759" first="Raegan" last="Lantz"] are great complimentary pins as well, giving the team a lot of size with MacIntosh and Porter at 6’2”, and Lantz at 6’3”. In the middle [player_tooltip player_id="66327" first="Makenzie" last="Ritsema"] (6’2”) and Kamryn Burbridge (6’1”) are forces to be reckoned with as well. With Dood able to be aggressive herself from the setter position, MVA 17 Black is going to be able to keep opponents guessing. This hitting group has a lot of power, but has the offspeed shots and can play a variety of angles. MVA should feel good about this team competing with the best in the state and the region.
