The two-day tournament was the second of the season for the 18s and 16s, which features 12 of the top teams in So Cal in each division. It was an incredible weekend for SCVC 16 Roxy, which went 7-0 and won the 16s division with victories that included beating Coast 16-1 in pool play and Wave 16 Brennan in Sunday’s playoff final. Below, we list 9 more of the top attackers we saw from the 16s divisions and tried to focus on players who weren’t already mentioned from the first tourney from two weeks ago.
Kate Martin Kate Martin OH Marymount | 2024 State CA , OH, Mizuno Long Beach 16 Rockstar – Looking at Martin one wouldn’t think she can hit as hard as she does. It’s that deception that is part of her game. She can get up and connect whether front or back row and when she gets into one watch out because it’s coming over the net with pace.
Abigail Jones, OH, Temecula Viper 16 Mauro – Jones is just coming back from missing a month of action and wasn’t able to play at the first PVL tourney of the season. It was a loss for Viper which was happy to have her and her all-around game back. She’s a six-rotation outside who can pass, play defense and is a heady attacker with a range of shots to score with.
Stella Norman, OH, Temecula Viper 16 Mauro – When it comes to pure power, no hitter is stronger than Norman in the premier division. She’s as physical of an attacker as they come by. She can simply overpower the block or make it almost impossible to dig up her shot when she crushes one.
Jade Ilas, OH, SG Elite 16 Rosh – Teams need to pay attention to Ilas when she checks in to play across the front row. SG isn’t a big team but has a knack for playing bigger than they are. Part of it is the setting that gets the hitters good looks and Ilas isn’t afraid to lay into her attacks and let it rip, especially on the cross-court attack.
Jenna Garner Jenna Garner 6'0" | OH South Pasadena | 2024 State CA , OH, City 16 Gold – Garner is another cog in the offensive attack for City. When she’s on the court the team will look to set her both front and back row as she’s a consistent scorer.
Mila Mijailovic, OH, City 16 Gold – City has a couple options at outside and can alternate between Garner and Mijailovic. Both are capable of carrying their roles well as both can put away balls when called upon with smart shot selection.
Molly McCluskey, RS, Tstreet 16 Carson – It was a tough weekend for a short-handed Tstreet team that was missing some key players. But a bright spot was the play of McCluskey, who looked to take on a bigger role because of that then the first tourney. She was up for it as Tstreet looked for her as often as it could when she was in the front row. She’s a tall player with a high point of contact and can hit down on the ball well.
Bella Emanuele, RS, Forza1 North 16 UA – A lefty opposite for Forza, Emanuele is a strong option when she plays across the front row. Teams need to pay attention to her because Forza looks for her to carry some of the offense and she’s definitely able to deliver with a strong swing.
Ayva Moi Ayva Moi 5'11" | RS Cathedral Catholic | 2024 State #72 Nation CA , RS, Wave 16 Brennan – Moi is an impressive player on the right for Wave. She’s the team’s most physical pin attacker and will hit from any spot across the front row, including on the X that Wave will run for her. Just as importantly, she plays six rotations because of her ability to pass and defend as well.
