Moving up to the 16s age group and the competition was even more cut throat at the Mid-East Qualifiers. Some of the best from all over the country traveled to Indianapolis in hopes of punching their ticket to the USAV Nationals in July.
The 16 Open saw Dynasty 16 Black take the ultimate crown and a bid for July. Somehow going 10-0 on the weekend, Dynasty was on point all weekend especially with such a stacked field of competition.
Let’s talk about the pins at MEQs. Here are 26 of the highest of flying pins at the Mid-East Qualifiers. (PART 1)
Skyler Pierce (2024) | 6’2 OH | Dynasty
Skyler Pierce was huge from start to finish for Dynasty in more ways than her stature. With a knack for scoring, Pierce can get it done anywhere on the court. Her hops allow her to elevate over the block and she has a great eye for the court. Send it out to the left or run her through the pipe, Pierce will deliver.
Abigail Mullen (2025) | 6’3 OPP | Dynasty
It’s hard to believe that this player is playing an age group above her peers because Abigail Mullen already plays at such a high level for the 16 Open. Mullen has the shots, the power, and the vision to get the job done, she can truly do it all. She sees the block well and can make some impressive plays on the right side that is not often seen at this level.

Cayla Cogan (2024) | 5’8 OH | Legacy
Undersized, yes. Jumps out of the gym? Oh ya! Cayla Cogan is a complete package for this Legacy squad, She delivers when asked to score and she plays a great game in the backcourt. Cogan is a part of a pretty elite trio of outside attackers, but you’ll never see her rotate out.
Catherine Flaharty (2024) | 6’2 OH | L2
As previewed, Catherine Flaharty had a fine weekend in Indianapolis. Her attacking is improving vastly and is cementing herself as a go-to arm for this emerging club team. Flaharty is getting stronger and taking a lot smarter cuts on her swings.
Katelyn Berry (2024) | 5’11 OH | L2
Opposite of Flaharty, Katelyn Berry is a perfect compliment. As her counterpart is the scorer, Berry keeps this squad in system with her high-level passing. This is not to say she can’t score herself, Berry had some big time swings throughout the qualifier.
Grace Nelson (2024) | 6’1 OH | 1st Alliance
To be in a tournament this stacked and walk away with a runner-up finish, you better have some fire power. Grace Nelson put on the gun show this weekend. Nelson’s approach to the ball is scary, always with a lot of velocity and determination. Not much can slow this one down.
@stingvb1988 + @1stAllianceVBC = TOP NOTCH 🏐!!!

Sienna Foster (2024) | 5’10 OH | Boiler Juniors
A steady force on the left pin for the Boiler Juniors, Sienna Foster impressed throughout the weekend. En route to a top 10 finish, Foster was a large part of the success. A smart attacker, Foster sees the block and defense very well with some great shots around the court.
Ellie Schumacher (2024) | 5’11 OH | MKE Sting
MKE Sting was very solid throughout the entire weekend. A large reason came from the success of Sting’s pin attackers. Ellie Schumacher is a complete player. In the game all six rotations, she is a player that can be relied upon to do just about anything at a high level.
Melia Johnson (2024) | 6’2 OH | MKE Sting
Opposite Schumacher, locked and loaded with a cannon of an arm is Melia Johnson. MEQs proved to be a great offensive showing for the six rotation attacker as Johnson was efficient throughout the front row as well as the back row. She has a high reach and heavy follow through that creates a lot of problems for defenders.

Megan Brown (2024) | 5’11 OH | CUVC
Megan Brown was able to make a great impression upon first glance and was able to keep my attention for quite some time. Her arm boasts a wide array of shots that creates a lot of trouble for opposing defenders. Brown is an attacker to rely on to deliver in transition with a very solid out of system attack.
Devereaux Hoxsie (2024) | 5’11 OH | Tribe
This Tribe squad has a trio of some pretty springy pin attackers. Devereaux Hoxsie is a part of a lethal duo on the left side. Hoxsie jumps well and has a great read of the defense. She can get up and really crank on the ball, scoring at a very high rate.
Morgan Mattson of Tribe VBC with the line shot of her own! #MEQs pic.twitter.com/fMAksVG1Q9

Morgan Mattson (2024) | 6’0 OH | Tribe
Alongside Hoxsie, Morgan Mattson is another great left side attacker for Tribe. You can’t go wrong with feeding any of these pins as they can all deliver at a high level, especially Mattson. Mattson is a go-to arm on this squad for great reason. An array of shots up her sleeve and a wicked cross body shot equals a deadly player.
Natalie Depaula (2024) | 5’10 S/OPP | Tribe
If we’re speaking of deadly players to come across, you don’t want to see Natalie Depaula across the net. She can play just about any position you need her too and she’ll more than deliver. In the front row, she’s a hefty south paw that cannot get the ball enough. Her shots are impeccable and, oh, so aggressive. In the back court, she’s a setter with beautiful delivery and a deadly float serve.
