LSRC 18s – Houston Area Previews – TAV Houston 18 Adidas

<p>Most of the top 18s club volleyball teams in the state of Texas will head to the Austin area this weekend to compete in the 2022 Lone Star Regionals 18s Championship, which will be hosted by the Round Rock Sports Center.</p>
<p>The two-day tournament will reunite more than 100 teams across its two divisions and will display some of the top talent available in the Lone Star State.</p>
<p>I’ve been fortunate to watch some of these teams in-person while covering tournaments during the club season in the Houston area and will highlight some of the ones that will compete in the 18 Bid division in the days leading up to the LSRC.</p>

<p><strong>TAV Houston 18 Adidas</strong></p>
<p>18 Adidas reunites the best players from the famed TAV Houston club in the age group and it has had some remarkable finishes in the season, most notably a second in the Nike Cross Court Classic and a third in the FAST Warm Up. The team currently has a 19-13 win record in the club season.</p>

<p><strong>Players to Watch:</strong></p>
<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="99515" first="Mallorie" last="Garner"] – Outside Hitter – HS: Bridgeland – 2022</strong></p>
<p>Arguably one of the best volleyball players in the Houston area in the last high school season, when she guided her team Bridgeland to the State Tournament and made it to the Tournament team, [player_tooltip player_id="99515" first="Mallorie" last="Garner"] is a very complete outside hitter. She’s powerful at the net at 6’1” but also very efficient and intelligent, making very few mistakes. Her presence also provides her teams with some stability on the backcourt as she’s very technical on that part of the game too. She ended her high school career with 801 kills, 672 digs, 756 passes, 102 blocks and 57 aces.</p>

<p><strong>Eliza Konvicka – Right Side/Outside Hitter – HS: Bellaire – 2022</strong></p>
<p>Capable of playing at either side of the net, Eliza Konvicka is mostly used on the right at 18 Adidas. She’s extremely prolific from that side and has an impressive variety of hits and shots that she uses to score points. Konvicka stands at 6’2” and is very long, so she doesn’t have a problem when she needs to outpower opponents at the net either. Her blocking is also very and her passing significantly improved after she played outside hitter for her high school team Bellaire last season. Konvicka has committed to Cornell University after producing 389 kills, 247 digs, 420 passes, 80 aces and 54 blocks last season.</p>

<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="152996" first="Avery" last="Fowler"] – Setter – HS: Oak Ridge – 2022</strong></p>
<p>One of the most talented setters in the state of Texas, [player_tooltip player_id="152996" first="Avery" last="Fowler"] is a leader by production and attitude on the court for her teams. The 5’8” ballhandler is very clean on her touch on the ball and is excellent with her ball distribution. Fowler never seems to be fazed on the court and has a great reading of the game, often making the best choices. She’s also very athletic and is not a liability at the net. Her future after producing 1,910 assists, 939 digs, 410 kills and 124 aces in a stellar high school career with Oak Ridge will be at Sam Houston State.</p>

<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="99523" first="Ava" last="Terry"] – Libero – HS: Grand Oaks – 2022</strong></p>
<p>An electric and highly-skilled defensive player, [player_tooltip player_id="99523" first="Ava" last="Terry"] commands 18 Adidas’ backcourt with authority. The 5’6” libero is extremely consistent and seems to have a level of attention that nothing can disrupt during matches. She is a player that clearly pays attention to the little details and nuances of the game and that never goes away from doing the perfect technical gesture and being exactly where she needs to be on the court. She’ll also play for Sam Houston State after she ended her high school career with Grand Oaks by producing 444 digs, 650 passes and 46 aces as a senior.</p>

<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="99525" first="Jackie" last="Velzis"] – Outside Hitter/Right Side – HS: Cypress Woods – 2022</strong></p>
<p>A right side for her high school team Cypress Woods, [player_tooltip player_id="99525" first="Jackie" last="Velzis"] normally plays as an outside hitter for 18 Adidas and she does a great job in incorporating passing duties into her game. Velzis is extremely tall and athletic at 6’1” but what makes her difficult to play against at the net is her ability to mix hard-driven hits with well-placed tips. She’ll play for the University of Texas at Tyler after notching 383 kills, 296 digs, 218 passes, 60 blocks and 36 aces in the last high school season.</p>

<p><strong>Karrington Kays – Middle Blocker – HS: Bridgeland – 2022</strong></p>
<p>Karrington Kays has been a stud for her high school team Bridgeland during four seasons, leaving the program with 701 kills and 309 blocks. A six-footer, she’s very mobile and athletic and makes a great impact on the game with her physical tools. Kays’ consistency and reliability are two of her most valuable assets on the court and she’ll benefit from them when she joins the University of Saint Thomas in the summer.</p>
