Are you recruiting this player? You might want to consider this player as well. I can borrow a page out of Netflix in regards to how they find what the next show would be based on what you (as a college coach) have been watching and what could also be one to watch in your future. I have a few athletes from Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana that would fall into this category. Athletes from these states are heavily recruited and would make a great fit in a school in the Midwest or go somewhere that is a plane ride away. Here are some “Suggested Prospects” depending on who you are recruiting.
***I know 2024’s are not technically being recruited, meaning talking with college coaches in regards to the recruiting process, but I do know coaches are keeping a close eye on these athletes.
Are you recruiting Ella Demetrician, FC Elite 18 Elite? Try these other high level outside hitters in the Class of 2024
Ava Utterback, Circle City 16 Purple
Payton Petersen, Six Pack 16-1
Grace Nelson, 1st Alliance 16 Gold
Lauren Harden, REV 16-1 Fury
Alaleh Tolliver, Academy 16-1 Yeti
Demetrician is the top outside hitter in the Class of 2024 in Wisconsin. She has been playing up on the FC Elite 18 Elite team the past two seasons where they were in the final eight of USAV 18 Open in 2021 and have already snagged an Open bid to Phoenix. These other attackers I’ve listed have a lot of similar attributes that would translate well to the next level. Ava Utterback out of Circle City might be one of the best leapers in the Class. She has an aggressive approach and contacts extremely high. Being in the heart of Big Ten country, she will have plenty of in-state schools on her court and beyond. Payton Petersen is halfway through her sophomore year of high school and has already won three state titles (2 in volleyball, 1 in basketball and is currently in the state tournament this week). She has the ball control of a libero and the power of prime time player on the pin. Grace Nelson is so smooth. She’s a physical attacker who has a variety of shots and can always go with power. Lauren Harden is another physical attacker who has a crazy upside to her game. She plays high, is always an outlet out of the backrow, and knows how to terminate. Alaleh Tolliver is a fighter on the pin. She has a violent swing on the outside and knows how to use the block – big time point scorer.
Are you recruiting Jenna Meitzler of Sky High 16 Elite? Try these other dynamic setters who can swing and set.
Emerson Van Lannen – FC Elite 16 Navy
Emily Bruss – MKE Sting 16 Black
Andie Spies – Capital 17 Adidas
Molly Romano – Nebraska Elite 161 Lokahi
Jenna Meitzler of Sky high 16 Elite is extremely efficient where she can swing, set, and defend her position. She was a key cog this past fall for Barrington High School in Illinois where they finished third in the large class for Illinois high school volleyball. Here are some other setters who are extremely athletic and dynamic who can set and swing. Emerson Van Lannen of FC Elite 16 Navy was in a similar situation to Meitzler where she ran a 5-1 for Appleton North who finished second in Wisconsin’s large class this fall. Van Lannen sets in the backrow and hits on the right side in the front row. Her squad just won the national bid from Badger Region and will be looking for a chance to get a USAV Open bid. Emily Bruss is another dynamic athlete from Wisconsin where she runs the show for Milwaukee Sting 16 Black. She can swing on the right side as well, but is really developing into a strong setter. This Wisconsin class is deep with setters when you throw in Andi Spies who is another setter/right side combo. She is fundamentally sound with a high IQ playing for the Capital 17 Adidas squad. Another 2024 setter to keep tabs on out of Iowa that can do a little bit of everything is Molly Romano out of Council Bluffs who plays her club ball for Nebraska Elite out of Omaha.
Are you recruiting Sylvie Zgonc of Milwaukee Sting 17 Gold? Take a look at these other 2023 point scoring outside hitters.
Cordelia Kearns – VC United 171 Elite
Kaitlin Schulz – FC Elite 17 Navy
Jesse Julius – Iowa Rockets 17R
Kayla Knowles – CIA 17 Black
Reagan Jansen – Kairos
Sylvie Zgonc packs a major punch from the pin. She has entered a new level this club after a big offseason where she grew and added inches to her jump touch. Her all around game has also emerged as well which gives her a chance to score from the backrow. Some other athletes out of Wisconsin out of the Class of 2023 would be Cordelia Kearns (VC United), and Kaitlin Schulz (FC Elite). Kearns has an extremely fast arm and knows how to find the opening in the block or use the block to her advantage to score. She will be at The Showcase in the Dells this weekend with her VC United 171 Elite squad. Iowa has a deep Class of 2023 attackers who can score as well. Jesse Julius is a six rotation outside hitter from Iowa Rockets 17R who is really steady in all six rotations. Kayla Knowles of CIA 17 Black has plenty of power to her game. She’s been fun to watch emerge the past two seasons, including be a star on the high school court. Out of Northwest Iowa is Reagan Jansen who plays her club ball at Kairos out of Sioux Falls, SD.
