Milwaukee Sting 17 Gold is coming off a Badger Region Qualifier title earning a National Bid and won the Badger Region Championship this past weekend to build plenty of heading into MEQ this weekend. Sting 17 Gold will be the 10th overall seed and will be looking to punch their ticket to an Open bid to indy for USAV Nationals this summer. This team has plenty of available high level 2023 athletes. Here is a breakdown on Milwaukee Sting 17 Gold.

Committed

[player_tooltip player_id="61781" first="Zoe" last="Behrendt"] - Whitefish Bay

Setter - Committed to North Carolina

Behrendt brings a real athletic style to the setting position where she is going to be a future Tar Heel. With a smooth release and great footwork, Behrendt can get her hands to the ball and put it on the money while remaining neutral. When Behrendt enters the front row she can still set, but she provides a big swing on the right side. She is a point scorer and solid block. Her positive intangibles are all in place where she provides plenty of positivity on her side of the net. This is all while being an All Conference basketball player as well.

“KC” [player_tooltip player_id="91877" first="Karissa" last="Fortune"] - Appleton North

Outside Hitter - Committed to Drake

One of the most efficient pin hitters you will find, Fortune brings an all around game and versatility to the court. At 6’2, Fortune is able to find ways to score points from the left or right side. She has great vision to find the open spots and use the block to her advantage. Fortune is also a backrow threat where she is extremely solid in serve receive and has plenty of range defensively. She is also one who can score out of the backrow as well.

Uncommitted

[player_tooltip player_id="91895" first="Molly" last="Berezowitz"] - Burlington

Libero/DS

Berezowitz is going to make plenty of teams better at the next level with her skill and court presence. An all around athlete who has competed at the state volleyball and basketball tournament, she knows how to win at a high level. She is well trained, disciplined, and thrives in the big moment. The intangibles for Berezowitz are through the roof where she is going to bring a ton of value with her skill and ability to lead.

Kati Goba - Wisconsin Lutheran

Libero/DS

Goba is quietly effective and is another who knows how to compete and train at a high level. She can anticipate, get her feet to the ball, and control her platform to get a consistent touch on the ball for her setters to run a quick tempo. I’ve seen Goba since her 15s year and she always provided consistency whether its for her Wisconsin Lutheran High School squad or with her Sting teammates. She can handle a high volume of serve receive opportunities and can pass threes all day.

[player_tooltip player_id="91906" first="Elena" last="Dragani"] - Catholic Memorial

Setter

Dragani has continued to improve each time she takes the court. She knows how to run the show as a setter, getting her attackers in position to terminate. Dragani is another I’ve seen since she first came onto the high school and club scene in her 15s year and her game has quickly evolved. Her hands are fast where she can release high and neutral to go to either pin. She also is a solid defender and finds a way to make the high IQ play and better the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id="82936" first="Taylor" last="Tetzlaff"] - Kaukauna

Outside Hitter

Tetzlaff is a new addition to this team out of the Fox Valley. She brings to this team a heavy swing and the ability to play six rotations. Her offensive game has evolved from pure power to some power and finesse with a repertoire of various shots. She has always been able to split the block, but is now able to roll over the top, cross body down the line, and use the block to her advantage.

[player_tooltip player_id="82916" first="Sylvie" last="Zgonc"] - Sussex Hamilton

Outside Hitter

Zgonc has skyrocketed in her progress since her 15s year. Even since the 2021 club season, she has gotten taller, stronger, and has bettered her overall athleticism and physicality. She is the type of athlete who can take over a game. The top available outside hitter in Wisconsin out of the Class of 2023 could be quick to commit after the qualifier season as she has to be on the radar for plenty of college coaches. She still has a huge upside to her game where she is now able to score in all rotations from multiple spots in the front and backrow.

[player_tooltip player_id="82287" first="Emily" last="Honzelka"] - Kettle Moraine Lutheran

Middle Blocker

Long, athletic, and 6’3, Honzelka has a major presence at the net. The other side of the court has to be aware of where she’s at with her block because she can get her hands up quick and can really close a block. She has always had a huge impact on every team she’s played on, she was still an All State player this fall after missing the first part of the season with an injury. She’s an offensive and defensive threat where she can also be very lethal off one foot.

[player_tooltip player_id="91901" first="Bella" last="Lipski"] - Divine Savior Holy Angels

Middle Blocker

Lipski will slice and dice out of the middle with her high IQ which can keep the other side of the net on their ties. She has a mix of shots that she can really use with her vision of the block and the other side of the net. She can paint the corners and efficiently tips to the open spots. I say “efficiently” because she knows how to effectively use tipping to her advantage instead of a bail out spot. She is also extremely smart with knowing where to be defensively with her block to close the seam or get a touch.

[player_tooltip player_id="82901" first="Maddy" last="McGath"] - Brookfield East

Middle Blocker

McGath is really physical out of the middle. She can also attack in a variety of ways where she can see the block and go left or right without giving it away to the other side of the net. She’s really lethal when she can attack on the slide. With solid hand contact, she can hammer down the line or hit the angle. She works hard in transition when she can make herself available coming out of a block to do plenty of positive things offensively. McGath is coming off a state basketball tournament appearance for Brookfield East.

[player_tooltip player_id="61787" first="Emily" last="Clausen"] - Catholic Memorial

Middle Blocker/Right Side

Clausen is long and really dynamic. She is a teammate of Dragani and the two have a solid connection. Clausen can play out of the middle or right side, but I have seen her mostly on the right side this club season. The advantage to her being able to play both positions is her ability to read the attackers on the other side of the net and have a major presence with her blocking. As a right side attacker she can go off one foot or even come out of the middle on crossing play. Her athleticism definitely provides a high ceiling for her at the next level.
