While there were plenty of committed athletes playing, there are also a lot of athletes who are still available from the Class of 2022 and 2023 who would be a great addition to a college roster. Here are a few who you should keep an eye on!
Addison Poppe – 2022 – Middle Blocker – Wahlert Catholic (IA) – CIA 18 Black
Poppe gets up in the air really fast and just explodes out of her approach. She doesn’t hesitate to make a really smart play, and she is very efficient on offense. Poppe learns quickly from her opponents, making her hard to read offensively and defensively. She is always pushing for that next point with a terminal swing.
Brynn Johnson – 2022 – 6’1 – Outside Hitter – River Falls (WI) – Kokoro 18-1
Johnson is a 6’1 attacker who has improved a lot since I last saw her in live action at the Wisconsin State Tournament. She was a key piece for Kokoro this past weekend as they made a statement in their impressive finish at the Mizuno Showcase. The high contact of Johnson, fused with her capability to drop the hammer on a sharp cut, makes her a terrific pick-up at the next level.
Amari Branch–Autman – 2022 – 6’1 – Middle Blocker – Auburn (IL) – VCU 182 Elite
Branch-Autman’s improvement each time I saw her play over the 3-day weekend was really impressive. She is fast and physical at the net with a propensity for blocking with her timing and capability to quickly get her hands over the net.
Cordelia Kearns – 2023 – 6’1 – Outside Hitter – Oconomowoc (WI) – VC United 17-1
Kearns is one of the top available players out of the Class of 2023 in Wisconsin. She is well trained, has a high volleyball IQ, and the resourcefulness to contribute in a number of different ways. Kearns has developed a really nice deep shot that gets over the block and is tough to defend. She is definitely a player I have enjoyed watching grow as an athlete during the past few years. Her experience playing sand really helped her become a 6-rotation player who is strong in serve-receive and has the flexibility to swing with authority from either pin or the back court.
Emily Brenner – 2023 – 5’10 – Outside Hitter – Stanley-Boyd (WI) – Wisconsin Ice 17 National
Brenner is a terrific player who can take control of a match. She is teamed up with Meghan Scholz, a DePaul commit who can draw a lot of attention in the middle for Ice. Brenner is really physical at the net and part of a very athletic group out of North Central Wisconsin.
Mia McGuire – 2023 – 5’10 – Middle Blocker – St. Charles (MN) – SMV 18-1 Black
McGuire is seriously athletic, lightning-fast from pin to pin, and explodes when she jumps. Whoever can get McGuire would be getting an entire gold mine because I think she has a really high ceiling and they’ve just scratched the surface of her potential. She’s competitive, can score points, and gives off a super positive vibe.
Rachel Kerhin – 2022 – 5’9 – Outside Hitter – Green Bay Southwest (WI) – One Wisconsin Bay 18 Mizuno
Kerhin is a high-flying pin for One Wisconsin Bay 18 Mizuno who has a really scrappy team. She plays all six rotations, active and involved during every play, and has the skill to score points. She is sound in serve-receive and defense and keeps a very calm and cool demeanor about her while playing.
Piper Kirchhoff – 2022 – 5’10 – Pin Hitter – Dowling Catholic (IA) – RVA 18U Parma
Kirchhoff caught my attention when she was swinging on the right side and hit a hard line. She is the type of player who can play all 6 rotations and swing from either pin, making her a very versatile piece to have on your roster. Kirchhoff is really tough, powerful, and a crucial point scorer for RVA.
Raina Chwialkowski – 2026 – 5’8 – Libero – Wells Fargo (ND) – Summit 18 Bob
Yup, you read that correctly. Chwialkowski is playing up 4 ages and she is just as steady as can be. She is in the right spot at the right time, makes the routine plays, and super sound and reliable. If she ever was under the radar, she won’t be for long. Chwialkowski is definitely one you need to watch and take notes on.
Taylor French – 2022 – 6’1 – Outside Hitter – Plainfield East (IL) – EVC 18 Elite
French takes a big swing from the outside with a perfect blend of strength and proficiency. When she starts her approach, you don’t want to be in her path because she is like a train with a destination, and her armswing is so fast it just puts an exclamation on the point.
