Continue ReadingWe are coming to the end of the volleyball season soon and we wanted to write a few articles on certain club teams who we think deserve some recognition for their season. Qualifier season is now coming to an end and some teams have punched their ticket to USA Volleyball Junior Nationals, which will be held in Indianapolis later on this summer. Let’s take a look at a team who has had a great season so far and who we will be seeing at Nationals. Take a bow NRG 16 AMPD Navy…you have earned it.
NRG 16 AMPD Navy was on our radar last year due to a few of their players interacting with us via social media. We watched a lot of highlight videos and were very impressed with what we saw. Then I was fully introduced to a few of them when a few of their players came to our Prep Dig Top 250 Showcase in December. I got to work with them personally and knew they would have a good season this year. So far this year they have a 30-7 overall record and sit at 8th in the North Texas region according to AES results.
They traveled to Las Vegas and competed in the Liberty division. They went 9-1 over the course of he three days and even though they lost in the finals, they earned the bid to USA Volleyball Junior Nationals to be held this summer. I was also able to see this team in Dallas at the Lone Star National Qualifier. Since they had the Liberty bid already in hand, they moved up to the USA division. They played very well and finished 9th out of 81 teams. We are proud of their success and look forward to seeing them in Indy. Even though we can write about each and every athlete that contributed to their success, I am only going to cover a few players that stood out while I was watching. Let’s meet a few of them.
Kinzley Brown-Riggins Kinzley Brown-Riggins 6'2" | MB Crowley | 2024 State TX [2024] 6-1 Middle (HS: Crowley/Club: NRG/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Kinzley is currently listed as the 70th best overall prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. Kinz plays at Crowley High School and also club for NRG out of the North Texas Region. She is a dynamic middle that is a true game changer. She is very fast and physical on both the offensive side of the net and the defensive side. Her long arms are able to press over the net and take away lots of space from opposing attackers. I love how bouncy she is on the court. She gets off of the ground so quickly, which will keep her in the mouths of college recruiters for the foreseeable future. There is a lot to love about this wonderful young lady, but the best for me is definitely her heart. She has a huge one with tons of love for her teammates and the sport. I think that whoever scoops her up in a few years is going to fall in love with who she is as a person. When I watched her at Lone Star, she unleashed her power a few times and scored very well for her squad. Put her name on your short list of athletes to watch and you will not be disappointed.
Grace Sweeney Grace Sweeney 5'10" | OH Midlothian Heritage | 2024 State TX [2024] 5-9 Outside (HS: Midlothian Heritage/Club: NRG/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Grace is currently ranked as the 106th best overall prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings, but is definitely on my radar to move up the rankings after seeing her in action at Lone Star. She plays at Midlothian Heritage High School and for the NRG club program. She is a fantastic six-rotation outside hitter who can put the ball down when needed. She has the uncanny ability to score in a variety of ways for her team both at the net and also at the service line. She is no stranger to accolades as she is the reigning MVP of her district in school volleyball. I was beyond impressed with her lift off of the ground. This two-sport star is super athletic on the basketball and volleyball courts. What I truly love is the power that she has hidden in that compact frame of hers. She is a fiery player who thrives on high energy and she gives so much of that energy to her team.
Ruby Rumohr Ruby Rumohr 5'10" | S Blum | 2024 State TX [2024] 5-9 Setter (HS: Blum/Club: NRG/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Ruby is currently ranked as the 78th best overall prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. She plays at Blum High School and for the NRG club program. This former district MVP and recipient of TGCA All-State honors is a wonderful setter who has so much to offer a team. I got to personally work with her during our Top 250 Showcase and marveled at her “coachability” during some of the position specific drills. I love her work ethic as she pushes through drills and game play. She is someone who I think would be a great captain of a team. The ball comes out of her hands very smoothly during her release. She is able to hit the target repeatedly in each location. You can see in her movements on the court that she is a multi-sport athlete and how it has impacted her play. I think she has a very bright future in the sport if she continues to progress. Stay tuned for more on Ruby as I will be watching her career very closely and reporting on it.
