We’ve released a new rankings list for the class of ’23, so we’re spending this week breaking down each position. Here are five outside hitters that should get more attention as we hit the home stretch of club season.

[player_tooltip player_id="85908" first="Caroline" last="Hilbrich"], 5-9, Floyd Central, Union

Half of the stellar beach duo with [player_tooltip player_id="85899" first="Grace" last="Purichia"] (Jacksonville State commit), Caroline’s all-around game make her a must-have for both the indoor and outdoor disciplines of this sport. She’s a primary-passing six-rotation outside that has every shot in the book and recently carried her high school squad to their first sectional title in five years. She’s also on the pipeline for USA Beach rankings, recently earning top five honors in multiple beach qualifiers over the past two summers. her game translates to both indoor and outdoor, and it’s only a matter of time before the next level figures it out.

[player_tooltip player_id="85918" first="Sydney" last="Robinson"], 5-8, Brebeuf, Munciana

The top attacker for 3A state champ Brebeuf, Sydney is a high-flying, terminal outside that can hit from anywhere and do anything she wants on the volleyball court. Her athleticism is off the chart, making this author temporarily forget about her size. This is a no-doubt recruit for the next level, at any size school. She’s also at the top training club in the state, making her rise to prominence that much more obvious.

[player_tooltip player_id="85904" first="Elle" last="Patterson"], 6-0, Tri-West, Rev

A hybrid of an attacker, I like Elle on the left pin at the next level. She’s more than capable, however, to go to the right in a pinch, and her speed and high attack touch can translate to the collegiate game. She’s been high on my radar for two years now, and being a taller-than-average pin from Indiana should have some heads turn this weekend in Chicago.

[player_tooltip player_id="85922" first="Josie" last="Nobbe"], 6-0, Greensburg, Circle City

From a small town southeast of Indianapolis comes a heavy-hitting and high-flying outside that has spent much of her high school career playing everywhere on the court. Her projection, however, looks to be as anything from a three-rotation pin to a six-rotation left side. I like her physicality (she’s the strongest on this list), the heavy ball she hits, and her ability to play at an open level regularly despite her high school background.

[player_tooltip player_id="93482" first="Avery" last="Hobson"], 6-1, Hamilton Southeastern, Academy

Quietly, Avery is the terminating left pin on Academy’s 17-1 squad that consistently finds themselves in the top ten in seemingly every tournament they enter. I had the privilege of watching her put balls away regularly in the finals of the Bluegrass tourney, where they took a set off of highly-touted Circle City 17 Purple. Avery hits high and hard, has gotten stronger over the last two years I’ve seen her play, and has been on programs that do nothing but win at the highest level. Miss Hobson is a no-doubt recruit for either pin, and should garner a ton of attention this weekend in Chicago.
