A dominant effort across the board saw Legacy win four different Open Division age groups, while placing third in the two others.
Open winners included 17-1 ADIDAS, 15-1 ADIDAS, 13-1 ADIDAS and 12-1 ADIDAS. Both 14-1 ADIDAS and 16-1 ADIDAS finished third.
Here’s a look at who helped catapult Legacy’s top squads to success last weekend.
17-1 ADIDAS
Legacy came into the event without Sarah Vellucci Sarah Vellucci 6'0" | OH Novi | 2023 State #97 Nation MI , the team’s standout libero, and DS Eve Martin Eve Martin 5'11" | S Lakeland | 2023 State MI , both due to injury. Despite that, Alexis Smith Alexis Smith 5'4" | DS/L Anchor Bay | 2023 State MI stepped up for the squad and handled the libero duties with flying colors. She tallied a total of 56 digs.
It was a competitive battle all weekend for Legacy, which suffered a loss to Milwaukee Sting 17 Gold during power pool play 25-23, 25-21. However, Legacy showed its resiliency by coming back on Sunday with a 19-25, 25-13, 15-10 win over the Sting to get to the final.
Harper Murray Harper Murray 6'2" | OH Skyline | 2023 State #2 Nation MI did her usual thing, racking up 85 kills while hitting .477 for the weekend. She also led the team in passing with a 2.25. Nina Horning Nina Horning 6'5" | OH Lake Orion | 2023 State #50 Nation MI played six rotations for the weekend and had 35 kills with 26 digs, but her efforts definitely were needed with the injuries in the back row. Erin Kline Erin Kline 6'2" | S Mercy | 2023 State #123 Nation MI had nearly 200 assists on the weekend as she ran the offense and continues to have great chemistry with her hitters. Kline also was the team leader in blocks and aces.
15-1 ADIDAS
Legacy had another strong showing, adding another top finish to its already impressive 2022 season. Like 17-1 ADIDAS, Legacy suffered a loss to Milwaukee Sting 15 Gold during pool play, 25-18, 25-20. However, it bounced back and grinded out a 25-20, 28-26 win over the Sting during bracket play on Sunday.
Gabby DiVita hit .314 for the weekend with a team-high 42 kills and passed a 1.98. Setter and hitter Campbell Flynn Campbell Flynn 6'2" | S Mercy | 2025 State #4 Nation MI continues to display her all-around skills by racking up 21 kills while hitting .529. She also had 120 assists and six aces. Olivia Grenadier Olivia Grenadier 6'1" | MB Country Day | 2025 State #91 Nation MI hit a strong .383 and was a big blocking presence with 10 on the weekend, while also passing a 1.81.
16-1 ADIDAS
Legacy finished third in the 16 Open, but did record a 25-21, 18-25, 15-10 win over eventual champ, Milwaukee Sting 16 Gold, during pool play.
Mintonette Sports was the thorn in their shoe for the weekend, losing twice to them, but three of the five sets they played were decided by three points or less.
Collectively, Legacy hit .291 as a team for the weekend while passing a 2.0 with 154 team digs and 19 blocks.
Cayla Cogan Cayla Cogan 5'10" | OH Clarkston | 2024 State #96 Nation MI led the Legacy effort on the weekend with 33 kills and 30 digs. Lucy Mott ran the offense smoothly with 112 assists, while adding 19 digs and seven aces.
In the middle Mallory Bohl Mallory Bohl 6'3" | MB Saline | 2024 State #102 Nation MI and Kate Maley Kate Maley 6'1" | RS Skyline | 2024 State #153 Nation MI were both dominant. Bohl hit .451 with 28 kills, while Maley had 26 kills and hit .364.
