Continue ReadingUSA Volleyball held it’s Girls Junior National Championships in Indianapolis at the Indiana Convention Center on June 26-30th. This is a very prestigious tournament in which teams actually had to earn their bid to play in it. The qualification process is super tough throughout the year and the best of the best rose to the top. Prep Dig was on hand to cover every serve, set, kill, and pass of the ball from start to finish. This series of articles is going to cover those athletes that stood out to me during the 10 days that I was covering the tournament.
This first series is going to be dedicated to the 2025 class. The entire series will be broken up by position. This article will cover some amazing setters that I saw help their team stay uber competitive due to their individual play. Let’s meet these amazing leaders.
Kirra Musgrove Kirra Musgrove 6'2" | S Lutheran South Academy | 2025 State #12 Nation TX [2025] 6-1 Setter/Right Side (HS: Clear Falls/Club: Houston Skyline/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Kirra is currently ranked as the 9th best overall prospect and 2nd best setter in the 2025 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. The lengthy setter plays for Clear Falls and Houston Skyline. We have profiled her numerous times and here is what one of my latest articles stated about her, “While she does have tons of upside as an elite attacker, I personally think she has even more potential as a setter. The ball comes out of her hands so fast and her sets are so replicable. She has great posture when jump setting and it is very difficult to determine where she is going to go with the ball. This will have her amongst the elite setters in the nation as she continues to grow in the position.” At nationals she was dominant amongst the best teams in the nation. I think she could play two years up if she wanted to and still be at an elite level. The moment she speeds up her tempo more consistently she could be amongst the best in the entire nation. Her size, power, and overall skill-set as a hitter on the right side could have her listed on the rankings solely as an opposite. Her skill-set as a setter is what had everyone talking amongst the college coaches. She is someone who will be able to call her shots when deciding where to attend in a few years.
Hannah Beauford Hannah Beauford 5'11" | S Prosper | 2025 State #99 Nation TX [2025] 5-11 Setter (HS: Prosper/Club: Drive Nation/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Hannah is currently ranked as the 27th best overall prospect in the 2025 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays at the juggernaut Prosper high school and also for the Drive Nation volleyball club. I just wrote a small article on her after she attended the pre tournament showcase and here is what I wrote about her, “This young lady was dishing some amazing dimes all over the courts in the showcase. Multiple coaches wrote down her number as a standout during both individual position drills and team play. She is super strong and there is not a set she cannot make look so easy. She definitely stood out to all of us!” After watching her in person at the showcase, I was super excited to watch her team perform because she looked like she was on a mission. After four days of this young lady moving the ball around to her wonderful hitters, they were putting a medal around her neck. She was phenomenal and earned a spot on the All Tournament Team from USA Volleyball. Hannah is special and deserves all of the recognition for her hard work at her craft.
Emma Gonzalez [2025] 5-4 Setter (HS: Johnson/Club: Alamo/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Emma is currently an unranked prospect in the 2025 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but is on our radar after watching her at nationals and also after seeing her at our Showcase we ran for USA Volleyball. Miss Gonzalez plays at Claudia Taylor Johnson High School and also club for the nationally known Alamo Volleyball program. I just wrote an article on her last week and here is what I stated, “When you see Emma at first glance, you see a normal small player who will be average at best. Then when you get to watch her in drills or play in a match, you see an absolute beast who can ball. This kiddo plays with a lot of vigor and determination to prove that she belongs on the big stage. Her set location was on point throughout the entire championship match as she set up her hitters in a perfect position to score against a formidable opponent. Emma does everything you want a setter to do on a court including playing exceptional defense out of the right back zone. I have so much respect for her as a person and a player as I have gotten to work with her in the showcase before the tournament and also after watching her dominate at the biggest stage in her age group.” Do not sleep on this kiddo! Trust me, she is one that you will want to pick first in a pick up game. I love how she is able to push the ball so effortlessly to the pins while out of system. But if you want to see a setter who plays defense like a libero, then look no further. I think she might be the best defensive setter in her age group out of the back row. Her form and touch on the ball is impeccable.
We will be continuing with more players in each position in the next few articles that stood out to me while I covered nationals.
