It did not seem right to miss out on spotlighting spectacular athletes that had a stellar showing at the tournament just because the tournament was a little bit ago. With over 200 athletes in the 18 Open team, we have narrowed it down to 27 ALL-STARS. These 27 athletes proved themselves invaluable to their teams success over the three-day tournament.
Note – we are not spotlighting any 2022 athletes since their recruiting period is over so no 2022 athletes are included in this article.
Below are the eleven standout pin-hitters that made it on the 18U Open All-Star Team from the Emerald City Classic.
Sophie Broesamle l WVBA 18 Adidas l 2023 l 5’9” l OH l Lakeside High School
Committed: Colby College
Broesamle was a six-rotation outside hitter for the WVBA 18-1 team. She was consistent throughout the tournament, taking big swings and racking up points. She showcases steady ball control and smart play. Her demeanor on the court is positive, calm and confident.
Emery DeJong l WVBA 18 Adidas l 2023 l 6’0” l OH/RS l Sedro-Woolley High School
Committed: California Baptist University
DeJong was a dominant pin hitter for the WVBA 18 Adidas team. When attacking, she unloads on the ball, with an explosive approach and a fast arm swing. She puts up a powerful block and shuts down opposing hitters consistently.
Rebecca DePencier-Piñero l SIVBC 17 Storm l 2023 l 5’10” l OH l Lakeside High School
Committed: Tufts University
DePencier-Piñero was a consistent force for the SIVBC 17-1 team. A go-to attacker, she showcases confident all-out play. Her ball control is solid, making her a great six-rotation outside hitter.
Hollis Downing l PJVBC 17 National l 2023 l 6’3” l RS/MB l Puyallup High School
Downing was an impact player for the PJVBC 17-1 team. Standing at 6’3”, she has an impressive reach on the ball. When she connects, she unloads on the ball, with a hammer of an arm. She puts up an insanely strong block on the right side.
Lauren Dreves Lauren Dreves 6'1" | OH Columbia River | 2024 State #46 Nation WA l OJVA 17-1 Gold l 2024 l 6’2” l OH l Columbia River High School
Committed: Auburn University
Dreves, a multisport athlete, had to miss Saturday of the tournament as she was competing for the State tennis final, and won! OJVA 17 Gold was glad to have her back for the final two days as she brings a lot to the court for the team. A six-rotation outside hitter, she has a lethal swing with an arsenal of shots and angles. She is relentless on defense, picking up the unthinkable. Her play was critical in the team finishing #1 in the ECC.
Kyleene Filimaua Kyleene Filimaua 6'1" | OH North Creek | 2023 State #185 Nation WA l NPJ Seattle 17-1 National l 2023 l 6’0” l OH l North Creek High School
Committed: Florida State University (Sand and Court)
Filimaua was named Player of the Game in the finals, so it is no surprise she would also be named to the All-Star team. A solid six-rotation outside hitter, she has a hammer of an arm with some serious hangtime. Taking on the brunt of the offensive load for the team, she is confident in her ability to put the ball away.
Sophie Gregoire-Salagean Sophie Gregoire-Salagean 6'2" | OH Newberg | 2023 State #49 Nation OR l OJVA 17 Gold l 2023 l 6’3” l OH l Newberg High School
Committed: University of Oregon
Gregoire-Salagean was named Player of the Game in the finals, so it is no surprise she would also be named to the All-Star team. A dominant six-rotation outside hitter, she is technically sound in every aspect of her game. Across the back row, she brings consistent ball control and a deadly back row attack. Her play was imperative in the team finishing #1 in the ECC.
Abby Harrell l T3 U18 Elite l 2023 l 5’11” l OH l Ellensburg High School
Committed: Villanova University
Harrell was a major player for the T3 18 Elite team as their six-rotation outside hitter. With a heavy arm and a variety of shots and angles in her arsenal, she proves terminal. Her out-of-system attacking is solid and her ball control is steady.
Brooke Huard l SIVBC 18 Tsunmami l 2023 l 5’9” l OH/DS l Bellvue High School
Committed: University of Washington
Huard was a utility player for the SIVBC team, stepping in wherever is needed for the team. As a defensive specialist/outside hitter, she proved invaluable over the tournament weekend. A dynamic and athletic player, she is smart and consistent all-around.
Nora Myre Nora Myre 5'8" | OH Eastlake | 2023 State WA l WVBA 17 Adidas l 2023 l 5’9” l OH l Eastlake High School
Myre was rarely seen off the court for the WVBA 17-1 team as a six-rotation outside hitter. She gave 110% from point one for the team, never taking her foot off the gas pedal. Very athletic, her approach is explosive, her arm swing is fast, and her vertical jump is impressive. Blocking, she is incredibly disciplined.
Kennedy Webb l CRU U17 Baden l 2023 l 6’1″ l OH l West Valley High School
Committed: Central Washington University
Webb was a six-rotation outside hitter for the CRU 17-1 team. A definite impact player for the team, she is a well-rounded player in all skills. Her out-of-system swings, ability to attack anywhere on the court, and her deadly line and cross-court swing make her indispensable. She brings incredibly consistent ball control to the court, especially on serve receive. From the service line, she brings a tough jump float.
