Below we will analyze 5 of those players, the strengths they bring to their program, and some of the accomplishments they have made over the last few years.
Morgan Howard – Colleyville Heritage – Senior
Colleyville Heritage’s Morgan Howard will be a senior this fall. Recently committed to the University of Louisiana Monroe, Morgan is aimed to have a star-studded senior season. After two seasons of varsity volleyball, she has accumulated over 2,300 assists, averaging over 10 assists per set. These stats are no accident. Morgan’s ability to run the court is very, very good. Her setter dump is one of the best in the state, and she sets a really good tempo ball to the right side. After winning a national championship with Skyline 17 Black, Morgan will be ready to dive back into the high school volleyball scene this fall.
Taylor Polivka Taylor Polivka 5'11" | S Keller | 2023 State TX – Keller High School – Senior
Taylor Polivka Taylor Polivka 5'11" | S Keller | 2023 State TX was a part of the Keller team that made it all the way to the championship game at the UIL state tournament, eventually losing a heartbreaking 5-set loss to Brandeis. Taylor had a great championship game, posting various blocks and big defensive plays. She loves to find her middle hitter, and make them successful even in hard situations. She has over 2,400 assists over 3 years at Keller, and her high level of play and high-stakes game experience will serve her well when she goes to the University of Miami after graduation.
Caroline Mann – Coronado High School – Senior
Caroline Mann had a break-out junior year for Coronado High School out of El Paso, Texas. She grabbed over 1400 assists and almost 300 digs in one season. She is really good at making scrappy plays and turning a bad ball into a great set. Even though she only stands at 5’5, her coach trusts her to run a 5-1 in a competitive 6A district.
Lexi Godbey – Flour Mound Marcus – Senior
I am including Lexi Godbey as a top 5 setter to watch in Region 1, because she is a dual threat athlete. Lexi can set well, but she can also put a ball away on the right side. Not only that, she is long and agile enough to put up some major blocks as well. Lexi’s hands are super soft, but quick enough on the release to run a tempo offense. She was able to rack up 649 assists in her first year on varsity for Flour Mound Marcus High School. Her off-season training with Frisco Flyers has surely prepared her to take on a bigger role in the fall.
Keatyn Rodgers – Byron Nelson High School – Senior
Keatyn Rodgers is the last feature in our 5 setters to watch in Region 1 this fall. She will be a senior, and had a really great junior year amassing over 800 assists for her team. She is part of a district that is very good, and has produced several state champions over the years. Her experience running a competitive offense will benefit her greatly come post-season.
