Continue ReadingUSA Volleyball held it’s Girls Junior National Championships in Indianapolis at the Indiana Convention Center on June 26-30th. This is a very prestigious tournament in which teams actually had to earn their bid to play in it. The qualification process is super tough throughout the year and the best of the best rose to the top. Prep Dig was on hand to cover every serve, set, kill, and pass of the ball from start to finish. This series of articles is going to cover those athletes that stood out to me during the 10 days that I was covering the tournament.
This first series is going to be dedicated to the 2025 class. The entire series will be broken up by position. This article will cover some big time middles that I saw help their team both offensively and defensively. Let’s meet these beasts.
Amelia Robinson Amelia Robinson 6'1" | MB Llano | 2025 State TX [2025] 6-0 Middle (HS: Lago Vista/Club: Austin Skyline/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Amelia is currently ranked as the 54th best overall prospect according to the 2025 Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays for Lago Vista High School and plays club for Austin Skyline. I wrote an article on her earlier in the year and here is a little of what I stated, “Amelia is a two-sport star for Lago Vista in both basketball and volleyball. She is on varsity for both sports. With pins like this team has, you would expect their middles to need a lot of work, but Amelia is an integral part of their defensive and offensive scheme. She patrols the net very well and uses her fantastic footwork to help her create a wall for opposing hitters at every location. She is just now coming into her own with volleyball as she has only played for a couple of years. This speaks to her elite athleticism to be able to play at this level after only a couple of years.” I have watched her squad all year long and one thing caught my eye…Amelia is getting better with each match. She is already a pretty good middle, but what is truly scary for everyone else is just how much she is improving in only one club season. There is no telling how much she will continue to improve but if you see what I see in her eyes, this kid is not stopping anytime soon. If I were to give out a most improved player over the course of the club season, she would definitely be one of the front runners for the award.
Morgan Collier Morgan Collier 6'0" | MB Joshua | 2025 State TX [2025] 5-11 Middle (HS: Joshua/Club: Waco Juniors/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Morgan is currently an unranked prospect in the state according to the 2025 Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but will be joining them soon when I update the list. She plays on the pins for Joshua High School and plays club for Waco Juniors. I was able to watch this young lady at our showcase that we ran at nationals and she was fantastic. I then watched her team play for a bit during the tournament and she was even more impressive to me. She is extremely explosive off of the ground both in blocking and approaching to attack the ball. Her long arms and legs mixed with her great vertical make her play well above the net. In the air, she looks like she is a 6’3” middle. But what is even more astounding is the amount of power that she has in her right arm. This kid has a cannon for sure and I cannot wait to see how she continues to progress. What stood out to our coaches in the showcase was just how hard of a worker she is. When I look at her, I see a college level player in her near future. Stay tuned to see where she falls on our rankings when I update the list.
Mackenzie Collins Mackenzie Collins 6'1" | MB Episcopal | 2025 State #48 Nation TX [2025] 6-1 Middle (HS: Shadow Creek/Club: Houston Juniors /Verbal: Uncommitted)
Mackenzie is currently an unranked prospect in the state according to the 2025 Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but is on my watchlist and should have no problem making the list when I update it. She plays for Shadow Creek High School and plays club for Houston Juniors . In a squad full of stars, this young lady truly stands out due to her form and technique. I have had the privilege of watching her play multiple times this season and each time I am in awe of just how polished she is as a blocker. She is a multi sport athlete who excels in everything that she does. She bounces off of the ground so fast that her feet barely touch the sport court. When she gets on top of the ball there better be a blocker in front of her, because if there isn’t, it is a guaranteed kill inside the three meter line. Miss Collins is a fun player to watch and we will be keeping our eye on her for the rest of her junior volleyball career.
We will be continuing with more players in each position in the next few articles that stood out to me while I covered nationals.
