It did not seem right to miss out on spotlighting spectacular athletes that had a stellar showing at the tournament just because the tournament was a little bit ago. With over 200 athletes in the 16 Open division, we have narrowed it down to 25 ALL-STARS. These 25 athletes proved themselves invaluable to their teams success over the three-day tournament.
Below are the eleven standout pin hitters that made it on the 16U Open All-Star Team from the Emerald City Classic.
McCall Callaway McCall Callaway 5'8" | OH Chiawana | 2024 State WA l Shockwave 16 l 2024 l 5’8” l OH l Chiawana High School
Callaway was a solid six-rotation outside hitter for the Shockwave 16-1 team. With solid ball control on serve receive and defense, she brings a lot to the back row. Her attacking is smart, with an insanely high vertical jump, she has the ability to consistently put the ball away. She also brings a tough jump float to the service line.
Payton Davis Payton Davis 5'10" | OH Oakesdale | 2024 State WA l CPA 16 Elite l 2024 l 5’10” l OH/S l Oakesdale High School
Davis was a well-rounded six-rotation attacker for the CPA 16 Elite team. With a fast arm swing and an explosive approach, she proves terminal from anywhere on the court. Versatile in her skill set, she is comfortable stepping in to set when called upon.
Chloe Dixon Chloe Dixon 5'11" | OH North Thurston | 2024 State WA l PJVBC 16 National l 2024 l 5’11” l OH l North Thurston High School
Dixon was a terminal outside hitter for the PJVBC 16-1 team. As a primary attacker, she unloads on the ball with a hammer of an arm. She has a multitude of angles, shots, and swings that she utilizes to put the ball away.
Stella Foley Stella Foley 6'0" | OH Shorewood | 2024 State WA l SIVBC 16 Thunder l 2024 l OH l Shorewood High School
Foley was an indispensable asset for the SIVBC team, attacking on either pin and playing all six rotations. With a whip of an arm, she racks up plenty of kills. On the right side, she can hammer the ball down the line with ferocity. Playing opposite the setter, typically, she plays across the back-row and brings solid ball control and defensive play.
Sidney Friesen Sidney Friesen 5'8" | OH Sprague | 2024 State OR l Athena 16 Gold l 2024 l 5’8” l OH/DS l Sprague High School
Friesen was an outstanding six-rotation outside hitter for the Athena 16-1 team. With Paz, the 2024 #2 recruit coming out of Oregon, having to miss competing with her team at ECC, the team looked to Friesen to step up. She rose to the challenge and was an offensive weapon from the left pin and in the back row. Her ball control is stellar, with consistent serve receive, and some all-out hustle.
Rylie Hangca l NPJ Seattle 16 National l 2024 l 5’7” l OH/RS l Puyallup High School
Hangca was a sensational six-rotation outside hitter for the NPJ 16-1 team. Although not often seen at any level, she is a leftie that swings on the left pin. She does a good job positioning herself around the ball so that she can hit a multitude of angles. Rarely seen off the court, she has solid ball control all around and her back row attack was utilized frequently.
Julianne Hemphill Julianne Hemphill 5'7" | OH Ridgeline | 2024 State WA l T3 U16 Elite Blue l 2024 l 5’7” l OH l Ridgeline High School
A dynamic, six-rotation outside hitter for T3 16-1, Hemphill shouldered the brunt of the offensive load during the ECC tournament. With Etter dishing out quick sets and receiving a bulk of the out-of-system sets, Hemphill stayed ready to attack. She has an impressive vertical jump. A sand player, this translates well on the court, as she sees the court very well. With a multitude of shots and angles, she consistently put the ball away.
Gabrielle Hill l OJVA 15-1 Gold l 2025 l 6’0″ l OH l Nelson High School
Hill was a stellar six-rotation outside hitter for the OJVA 15-1 Gold team. Shouldering the brunt of the offensive load, Hill proved lethal from either pin and when hitting a back row attack. She how shown rapid improvement over this past club season, and became an absolutely critical piece to this team’s success.
Darby Kelly Darby Kelly 5'10" | OH Newport | 2024 State WA l SIVBC 16 Thunder l 2024 l 5’10” l OH l Newport High School
Kelly was an all-around outside hitter for the SIVBC 16-1 team. Rarely seen off the court she is utilized in both the front and back row for her hitting. A technically sound athlete in every aspect of her game, she is disciplined and plays smart. When attacking, she does a good job mixing up her hitting placement and utilizing the block to rack up kills. In the back row, she brings stellar ball control on defense and serve receive.
Hedia Lewis Hedia Lewis 5'10" | OH Bush | 2024 State WA l WVBA 16 Adidas l 2024 l 5’10” l OH l The Bush School
Lewis was an impact attacker for the WVBA 16-1 team as a dominant outside hitter. An explosive approach with a fast arm swing, she is a terminal hitter. With a multitude of attacking angles, she can nail the ball down the line, or swing hard to the deep corner, with shots mixed throughout. Her contact point is high with a high vertical jump. Across the back row she brings solid ball control.
Haylee Tavares-Gernler Haylee Tavares-Gernler 5'10" | OH WA l PS U15 Navy l 2025 l 5’10” l OH l
Tavares-Gernler was a six-rotation outside hitter for the PS 15-1 team. Her attack is smooth, with a hammer of an arm, she racked up plenty of kills for the team from the pin and back row. She has a solid technical foundation in her all-around skills. From the service line, she garners lots of aces and disruptions with a killer jump float serve. Her play was vital in the team advancing to the 16 Open finals.
