The Bears made it all the way to the state tournament last season after finishing 2nd in their district and peaking at just the right time to pick up huge playoff wins against top 10 ranked teams like College Park and The Woodlands. Bridgeland is returning almost the entire squad from last year. Below we will highlight a few key pieces of Bridgeland’s road to the playoffs.
If Bridgeland wants to make a deep playoff run again, they will have to heavily rely on the consistency of Alice Volpe Alice Volpe 5'5" | DS/L Bridgeland | 2024 State #83 Nation TX and her ball control. Alice won over the libero position as a sophomore last season and made some incredible saves and digs on defense. Her improvements in the offseason with HJV have more than prepared her to take on tougher balls this season. More ball control will fall on rising senior outside hitter Olivia Waggoner. Olivia has moved up in the ranks significantly for her team and in the entire Houston area after having a great club season with TAV Houston. You can expect a lot from her including serve receive and defense. Shes a hard hitter with a heavy arm and provides a solid block. Some other big contributing pin hitters are seniors Kennedy Kays Kennedy Kays 6'2" | OH Bridgeland | 2023 State TX and Gracie Comeaux. They will both provide stability on the pins as well as a huge block. Gracie is a versatile athlete with a big verticle.
Rounding out an already good offense is senior setter, Lauren McIntyre. Last season she had over 600 assists, and she came up big for her team during playoffs, having some of the best games of her career. Her team will need her speed and tempo sets to be successful. Newbie sophomore Rebekah Pfefferkorn Rebekah Pfefferkorn 6'2" | MB Bridgeland | 2025 State TX may be able to add some assistance in the middle position if she works on her speed and intensity. Standing at 6’2, she will be a big block for sure. Coach Khalil says Bridgeland is ready to come in and work hard this season. They have a lot of talent in the program, and tons of athletic freshman and sophomore’s to fill shoes once the upperclassmen have graduated. The Bears have a bright future ahead of them!
