There will be several thousand players in action across the 1,207 high school teams that compete in the six divisions of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) and among them, there are some very talented ones, who certainly have a bright future in the sport.
As we continue to preview what the high school season will look like in the Houston area, we shift our focus from teams to players and highlight five of the most intriguing prospects in the districts located in the region.
In the final part of the series, let’s look at Division 6A – District 24:
Ashley Richardson Ashley Richardson 5'11" | S Clear Springs | 2024 State TX – Setter/Right Side – Clear Springs – Club: AVA – 2024
An extremely versatile two-way player, Ashley Richardson Ashley Richardson 5'11" | S Clear Springs | 2024 State TX is a big part of Clear Springs’ playing system with her ability to do a lot of different things on the court. The 5’11” prospect is excellent with her playmaking skills, running a fast-paced offense in her teams, but also a high-volume scorer hitting on the right. Richardson jumps well and has a very quick right arm and is heavily involved with her team’s game no matter where she’s on the court. She produced 533 assists, 312 kills, 281 digs and 37 aces in the last high school season.
Brittney Daphnis Brittney Daphnis 5'11" | RS Clear Falls | 2023 TX – Middle Blocker/Right Side – Clear Falls – Club: Houston Stellar – 2023
Capable of playing in the middle of the right, Brittney Daphnis Brittney Daphnis 5'11" | RS Clear Falls | 2023 TX has an excellent presence at the net. The 5’11” prospect is extremely physical and uses her tools very well. Daphnis is one of those middles who are capable of unleashing a lot of power on her hits even when she can’t make a full approach because of her great jumping and quick right arm. She also does an excellent job with her blocking because of her great length and her ability to react and get off the floor quickly. Daphnis tallied 163 kills and 85 blocks in the last high school season.
Caroline Boone – Outside Hitter – Dickinson – Club: Sporting Edge – 2024
When a player is capable of playing outside hitter and setter at a high level, you know there’s something to it. Caroline Boone is one of those rare talents and the 5’9” prospect can thank her extremely high volleyball IQ for her ability to do what she does. Boone is certainly very technical and works hard to be able to perform, but it’s her understanding of the game and her ability to find the right solution to any situation that make her stand out. She typically sticks to playing at the pin for Dickinson and tallied 208 kills, 299 digs, 480 passes and 34 aces last season.
Reagan Blank – Outside Hitter – Brazoswood – Club: Texas United – 2023
A dynamic and highly-productive outside hitter, Reagan Blank has been a reliable player for Brazoswood over the years. Standing at 5’11”, she’s a force at the net, being capable of scoring on either pin, but is also skilled enough to be deployed as a defensive specialist if needed. Her offensive range is excellent and Blank is the kind of player that likes to be on the ball in big moments. She had a very good junior season with 298 kills, 328 digs, 587 passes, 41 aces and 35 blocks.
Stratton Sneed Stratton Sneed 5'11" | RS Clear Creek | 2023 State TX – Right Side – Clear Creek – Club: Houston Stellar – 2023
A right-handed right side hitter with a quick and heavy arm, Stratton Sneed Stratton Sneed 5'11" | RS Clear Creek | 2023 State TX is one of the elite scorers in the district. The stands at 5’11” and can unleash a lot of power on the ball when hitting, but it all starts with her strong approach to making contact. Even if built upon her power, her offense is also very diversified as Sneed does a good job in hitting around the block and finding interesting angles. She ended last season with 210 kills, 67 digs and 39 blocks.
