Continue ReadingWe always get excited about the opportunity to update our class rankings! There are players who move up based on an outstanding high school or club season. There are players who enter the rankings for the first time. These updated rankings are based on what we saw occur primarily during the club season. This group of ten is very good. Today we bring you what’s new in the class of 2024. Our top 10 had some movement this go around. We had zero change at the top, with Nebraska-bound Skyler Pierce Skyler Pierce 6'3" | OH Olathe Northwest | 2024 State #4 Nation KS still sitting well.
This isn’t an easy process and players get missed. Our friend at Prep Dig, Chris Fitzgerald posted a great article sharing what goes into our ranking system here. Our rankings don’t dictate future success as a volleyball player or person. These rankings are subjective, but we feel we are on the right track with the hours spent dedicated to this process. I want to add our state rankings don’t reflect our first attempt at national rankings. Locally, we see many of these players more consistently and a player can be ranked ahead of someone in our rankings and they aren’t in the national rankings.
1. Skyler Pierce Skyler Pierce 6'3" | OH Olathe Northwest | 2024 State #4 Nation KS – OH – Olathe Northwest/ Dynasty – Nebraska
We are kind of running out of things to say. We can say a big improvement was made in the passing department this year for Pierce. Many players don’t get to commit to Nebraska which tells you everything you need to know. The focus is now on if she can help lead Olathe Northwest to their third straight state tournament in her three years.
2. Jillian Huckabey Jillian Huckabey 6'0" | OH Olathe Northwest | 2024 State #74 Nation KS – OH – Olathe Northwest/ KC Power
Huckabey forms a dynamic duo with Pierce on the high school level. Huckabey’s game has continued to evolve and we like her ability to be effective offensively from all over the court. We saw her shot tool-kit get deeper this spring.
3. Julia Headley Julia Headley 6'2" | MB St. James | 2024 State #103 Nation KS – MB – St. James/ KC Power
Headley is a middle who can do many good things on the court. You can count on her scoring at a high clip when set. She can also control the net defensively. Her potential level is high in our eyes.
4. Janelle Green Janelle Green 5'9" | S Blue Valley North | 2024 State #68 Nation KS – S – Blue Valley North/ KC Power – Cincinnati
Green had another solid year from the setter position. She is as competitive as they come on the court being the kid of former NFL quarterback and KC Chiefs royalty Trent Green. She liked how she looked to score more this year on the second ball and thought her speed of sets and decision-making were critical to the team’s success. She will get to play a lot more matches closer to home with Cincinnati joining the Big 12.
5. Ryan McAleer Ryan McAleer 5'5" | DS/L Blue Valley | 2024 State #29 Nation KS – L – Blue Valley/ Dynasty – Purdue
McAleer made a big jump into the top 5 after another year of highlight reel plays across the court. She is as tough as they come on the court. Her consistently getting the pass on the setter is what allowed Dynasty to be one of the top teams in the country the last couple of seasons. She will be heading to Purdue.
6. Cy Rae Campbell Cy Rae Campbell 5'11" | MB Heritage Christian | 2024 State #45 Nation KS – MB – Heritage Christian/ Dynasty – Wake Forest
Many in the class don’t get to see Campbell play often on the club scene due to playing up age the last couple of seasons. She is a player that improved in our eyes this year offensively. Her power off of one foot stood out behind the setter. We feel she could easily transition to the pin and will be interested to follow her in the coming years to see if that will happen. She’s heading out East to Wake Forest.
7. Camdyn Stucky Camdyn Stucky 6'1" | S Maize South | 2024 State #97 Nation KS – S – Wichita Northwest/Shockwave – Tennessee
We’ve been high to Stuckey the last couple of years. At 6’2″, she is a coach’s dream from the setter position. She moves around a little on the high school level and can fill a few roles but holds steady for a talented Shockwave team out of Wichita. Her length and IQ make her one of the top players in the state. She will be heading to Rocky Top with Coach Eve and Tennessee.
8. Jada Ingram Jada Ingram 5'11" | MB Washburn Rural | 2024 State #61 Nation KS – MB – Washburn Rural/ Dynasty
Ingram had one of the biggest jumps of any players in these rankings. After a strong season for a regular season undefeated Washburn Rural team last fall, she carried that over to the club scene which included a 16 Open All-Tournament team selection. She has unbelievable potential, which earned her a spot in the top 10.
9. Rachel Van Gorp Rachel Van Gorp 5'9" | OH Heritage Christian | 2024 State #94 Nation KS – OH/DS /L- Heritage Christian/ KC Power – Iowa State
Van Gorp is a player that can do it all and we saw that between the fall and spring seasons. She is slotted to play back row at the next level as she takes her talent to the same place her mom starred in Ames, Iowa. As we watched her this spring, we definitely appreciate her technique and attention to detail with her platform and passing. She will team with Campbell and aim for a three-peat this fall for Heritage.
10. Gracie Morrow Gracie Morrow 5'11" | OH Maize South | 2024 State KS – OH – Maize South/Shockwave
Morrow is a player who can absolutely fill it up fast from the pin from South Kansas. She is a scorer and has really improved her passing as well. She is going to be a good get for a small D1/power D2 program in the next year.
