There were 68 of the most talented teams from across the state competing in this awesome tournament. This is widely regarded as the toughest tournament in the nation. It proved to be one fantastic weekend of competition for everyone. I was super happy to have been there in person to witness the best battle the best. There were some amazing players from many teams who stood out for many reasons. Let’s take a look at all of the players who were standouts.
Bianna Muoneke Bianna Muoneke 6'0" | OH Cy Ranch | 2023 State #80 Nation TX [2023] 6-0 Outside (HS: Cy Ranch/Club: Houston Juniors /Verbal: Texas A&M)
Bianna is currently ranked as the 11th best overall prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She stars on the outside for Cypress Ranch high school and also for the awesome Houston Juniors program. Miss Muoneke was stellar to say the least in every aspect of the sport. She had almost every spectator in awe of her amazing vertical with every attack. Just when her team needed it, she seemed to revive them with a power shot. The entire varsity team would be electrified with energy with every swing. A player of her caliber brings so much to her team that the stat book doesn’t keep track of. It was so much fun to watch her do her thing at a high level for so many matches.
Sydney Breon Sydney Breon 5'11" | OH Highland Park | 2023 State TX [2023] 5-11 Outside (HS: Highland Park/Club: Texas Advantage Volleyball/Verbal: UCLA)
Sydney is currently ranked as the 37th best overall prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She stars on the outside for Highland Park high school and also for the awesome Texas Advantage Volleyball program. This varsity team is stacked with talent in every position and Syd stood out amongst that talent. I loved listening to the crowd and her teammates shout U-C-L-A after every big score from Miss Breon. They faced some serious talent throughout the entire tourney with some big names who were giving them fits, but just when her team needed a big point, Sydney came through. She is the type of player who can change the course of a match no matter which position she is playing. Her experience and talent allow her to exude confidence to her teammates and it really does take them to the next level.
Taylor Polivka Taylor Polivka 5'11" | S Keller | 2023 State TX [2023] 5-11 Setter (HS: Keller/Club: Excel/Verbal: Miami)
Taylor is currently ranked as the 43rd best overall prospect in the 2023 class in the according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays at Keller High School and also the Excel club volleyball program. The word leadership gets thrown around a lot when talking about players and sports. Taylor is the absolute personification of that word and her picture should be included in the dictionary right next to it. In addition to her awesome technique in the setting position, she was a beast all over the court as a blocker in the front row and scoring with timely dumps. No one would have thought that Keller could be back in the “team to beat” seat after losing two starting middles to injuries, but anyone who counted them out forgot that they had the ultimate leader in Miss Polivka. She is not going to let them down and will help lead them to compete against anyone.
