Here at PrepDig, we are committed to covering and promoting as many prospects as possible, from the most popular names to the hidden gems that typically abound at the Lone Star State and during the high school season we’re also doing it by featuring the teams they play at.
Every time we’re at the gym, we’re giving a good look at the teams on the court and we’ll try to feature as many as possible here in this space. In today’s piece, we’re going to bring you all the info you need on the Mayde Creek Rams.
The Squad
The Cougars have a good opportunity of doing something remarkable this season as they have basically every important player from last year’s campaign back. The team also has a top libero in Gemma Hopkins Gemma Hopkins 5'5" | DS/L Tomball | 2023 State TX and good options in several positions, such as outside hitter, with Kaitlyn Davis Kaitlyn Davis 5'9" | OH Tomball | 2024 TX and Teagan Alverson, and setter, with Lindy Godwin and Madalyn Hoot Madalyn Hoot 5'11" | S Tomball | 2024 TX .
Key Players
An extremely technically-gifted and intelligent player, Davis is a key piece in Tomball’s playing system. The 5’9″ outside is the team’s most reliable offensive weapon, using her combination of explosiveness and finesse to score points. Davis is extremely smart and her decision-making is probably the most important part of her game. A player with great efficiency in key moments, she’s also tremendously productive on the backcourt.
Highlights
Few things are more reassuring on a volleyball court than having a libero of Hopkins’ caliber on the backcourt. The 5’5″ defender is one of the best in the business and is a player her teammates know they can rely on. Hopkins’ efficiency can probably be evenly credited to her technical and mental skills as, at the same time she impresses with her ball control and quickness, her excellent positioning is a true difference-maker. She’s also a fantastic leader, who communicates with her teammates the entire time and often reads the game for them.
Highlights
Amelie Grostabussiat
Amelie Grostabussiat
The two things that immediately stand out when Grostabussiat is on the court are her physicality and her intensity. It’s very obvious she puts everything she has into each of her actions and that makes of her a very active and noticeable player at the net. The 5’11” Grostabussiat has a lot of firepower on her offense and is also capable of hitting into different directions while her blocking is hands down the best in the entire squad.
Lindy Godwin
Lindy Godwin
A great all-around player, Godwin does a very good job as Tomball’s main setter. She’s very precise with her locations and intelligent with her distribution. The 5’7″ playmaker is really quick and much of her efficiency comes from moving to the right spot and getting her body in a good position to set. She’s also a solid server and an excellent defensive player.
Teagan Alverson
Teagan Alverson
Playing diagonal to Davis, Alverson is more attack-oriented than her teammate. The 5’9″ outside hitter has good size and long arms and can hit the ball hard and make contact at a very high point. Her offense is very dynamic and diversified and she’s also a very good blocker. There’s still some work to be done on her game when it comes to passing and defense, though.
