As much as possible, we’ll also try to every Tuesday and Friday preview an interesting match that’s set to happen around the state, pointing out the most impressive prospects that will be on the court in that encounter. Our selected matchup for this Friday, September 30, is the one that will reunite the Stratford Spartans (24-12, 6-0) and the Jersey Village Falcons (25-8, 4-2), at 5.30 PM, in the Houston area.
Stratford
The explosive outside hitter has been at the top of her form in her senior season and has been a key piece for the Spartans as they remain undefeated in district play – she also helped the team beat rivals Memorial for the first time in 13 years with 15 kills. George has been a force at the net, leading the team in kills with 322, but has also been instrumental in other areas of the game, also placing at the top of the table in aces (54) and passes (490) and ranking second in digs (265).
The towering middle blocker is having an outstanding senior season, providing a huge presence for Stratford at the net. Very long and mobile, McClintock is managing to make a big impact on the game on both sides of the ball as she controls the net for the Spartans. She leads the team in blocks with 85 stuffs and ranks second in kills, only behind George, with 133.
The technically-gifted libero has been a stud for the Spartans on the backcourt, providing the team the stability it needs to play aggressively on offense. Very quick and intelligent, Abbott touches a lot of balls every time she goes on the court. Besides leading the team in digs with 388, she’s been having a key role in the team’s serve-receive system alongside George, having tallied 461 passes so far. Abbott is also Stratford’s second-best server, having fired 29 aces in the season already.
Jersey Village
Madi Diedrich
Madi Diedrich
The second-year outside hitter has grown into a big role with Jersey Village in 2022. Very long, she’s been a factor for the team at the net, but also has helped in other areas of the game. Diedrich leads the Falcons in kills (252) and digs (235) and ranks second in blocks (33) and third in passes (265) and fourth in aces (44).
Sophia Burke
Sophia Burke
The high-energy Burke has been a force for her team in the middle, using her high-intensity game to make a positive impact on the court. Besides being a powerful hitter and a productive blocker, the six-footer is also very vocal on the court, frequently encouraging her teammates and pushing them forward. She currently leads the Falcons in blocks (48) and ranks third in kills (143).
Elianna Freeman
Elianna Freeman
Freeman emerged as a promising offensive player in her freshman season, but has been able to significantly improve other areas of her game since then. Much of her growth happened in terms of just being more experienced and understanding the game better, but it’s also easy to see how hard she worked on her technique. Freeman continues to be a great scoring option for Jersey Village, currently ranking second in kills (204), but also leads the team in aces (55) and passes (376) and ranks second in digs (204).
