We will be highlighting a few teams that have a chance to do something very special this year if it all works out. Today we bring our attention to Highland Park High School out of District 7-6A.
The Eagles are coming off of a season in which ended a bit earlier than they wanted it to. They went 39-7 overall last year and finished in 1st place in their district by going 14-0. These ladies were beaten in the 4th round of the playoffs last season and are hungry to go further this season. They are returning some amazing seniors from last year’s team and have some really great underclassmen who are playing well beyond their years. That experience and amazing play should be something that propels them to the forefront of the 6A race this season. So far they are on fire and have a 25-2 overall record. We have written about some of these players before and here is a little from our recent articles about them if you need to remember who they are:
Harper Hall Harper Hall 5'8" | S Highland Park | 2024 State TX [2024] 5-8 Setter (HS: Highland Park/Club: Texas Advantage /Verbal: Uncommitted)
Harper is currently listed as the 73rd best overall prospect and 12th best setter in the 2024 Class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays high school volleyball at Highland Park and also club for Texas Advantage . I have written about her a few times this year and we added her to the rankings in the last update. I watched her very closely in quite a few tourneys when she played with Skyline’s top team and she was super impressive. Watching her a few weeks ago in the volleypalooza tourney showed me that her ranking is no fluke. She has stepped up into a solid role to lead this team to greatness this year. Her leadership and killer attitude on the court will take this team very far. She has been very sharp delivering the ball to some amazing hitters and that is not going to stop happening. You will be hearing her name a lot moving forward.
Cecily Gooch Cecily Gooch 6'3" | MB Highland Park | 2023 State #183 Nation TX [2023] 6-2 Middle/Right Side (HS: Highland Park/Club: Drive Nation/Verbal: Michigan)
Miss Gooch is currently listed as the 17th best overall player in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. Miss Gooch stars at Highland Park HS and for the amazing Drive Nation program. We have written about her a few times for the past couple of years and every adjective used was telling the truth. She is a juggernaut on the court who can do so many wonderful things for her squad. She is fully capable of playing every position along the front row at a very high level. This team will use her blocking abilities to take them very far in the playoffs when they go up against other great attackers. Because she is a matchup nightmare for opposing squads, they will be able to move her around if they choose to and take away their opponents best players. Puzzle pieces like this are a coach’s dream to have. Watch how she finishes her high school career on a great note.
Sydney Breon Sydney Breon 5'11" | OH Highland Park | 2023 State TX [2023] 5-11 Outside (HS: Highland Park/Club: Texas Advantage Volleyball/Verbal: UCLA)
Sydney is currently ranked as the 37th best overall prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She stars on the outside for Highland Park high school and also for the awesome Texas Advantage Volleyball program. This varsity team is stacked with talent in every position and Syd stood out amongst that talent. I loved listening to the crowd and her teammates shout U-C-L-A after every big score from Miss Breon. They faced some serious talent throughout the entire tourney with some big names who were giving them fits, but just when her team needed a big point, Sydney came through. She is the type of player who can change the course of a match no matter which position she is playing. Her experience and talent allow her to exude confidence to her teammates and it really does take them to the next level. They will go as far as her right arm and amazing defense will take them. She is on pace to have a stellar senior season.
Isabella Ocampo Isabella Ocampo 5'11" | OH Highland Park | 2025 State #146 Nation TX [2025] 5-10 Outside (HS: Highland Park/Club: Dallas Skyline/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Miss Ocampo is listed as the 38th best overall prospect in the 2025 Class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays at Highland Park High School and the nationally recognized Dallas Skyline club. I wrote about her previously and here is what I stated, “I have watched this young lady play numerous times and every time I watch her, she gets better and better. The power in her right arm is something that lets me know she will be a stud for years to come. The scary part is that she is just now barely getting started. When you watch her play, you can see that she just gets the game on a very high level. Her volleyball IQ is high and coaches across the country are going to love that about her. She is a true six-rotation pin attacker who will excel at the high school level and the next level when she continues to progress.” She has been lights out for this awesome team so far in this young season. When I watched them play at Volleypalooza in person a few weeks ago, Bella looked like a senior who was hungry. And boy was she eating at the net. There were times where she was unstoppable and it was a joy to see. Everything about her game screams, “I Got Next!” And we will be watching it continue to grow over the next few years.
Other notable standouts from this awesome roster are super sophomore Alex Richter Alex Richter 6'2" | MB Highland Park | 2025 State TX in the middle, senior stud Zoe Winford Zoe Winford 5'8" | DS/L Community | 2023 State TX (Georgia Tech), and senior middle Sadie Gruber. They are the front-runners in 6A so far and are ranked as the number one team by a few publications. We will be watching them very closely.
