We are, as usual, centering our coverage around promoting the most intriguing prospects around the state with articles that will highlight their standout performances and statistical milestones and also team features.
As much as possible, we’ll also try to every Tuesday and Friday preview an interesting match that’s set to happen around the state, pointing out the most impressive prospects that will be on the court in that encounter. This Friday, September 2, a much-anticipated match, reuniting two of the strongest teams in the season so far, will take place when The Woodlands Hilanders (22-8) meet the Conroe Tigers (32-0) at 5.30 PM.
The Woodlands
One of the top setters in the entire state, Dewine has stood out over the years for her ability to perform a lot of different duties on the court and to thrive in each and all of them. Despite being one of the top ballhandlers in Texas, she’s very intelligent and consistent with her game. Her 6’1″ frame is also of great help as, besides making of her a challenging blocker to play against, it also gives Dewine the physical tools to be an elite offensive. Picked as the Preseason Player of the Year by the Greater Houston Volleyball Coaches Association (GHVCA), she has registered 266 assists, 190 kills and 198 digs so far in the season.
Lewis emerged as an intriguing offensive player for the Hilanders last season as a freshman and that has been even more the case this season, as she took over a larger duty with the team. Very complete in her all-around game, the 5’10” Lewis is particularly impressive with her offense, which combines power, finesse and intelligence in a fantastic way. She has been extremely productive this season, having tallied 205 kills, 216 digs and 29 aces ahead of tonight’s match.
Highlights
If Lewis has been playing a key role for The Woodlands at the net, the very same can be said about Tuozzo when it comes to the backcourt. The team libero has been on fire at the start of the season, contributing with her reliable passing and very effective defense. Tuozzo benefits greatly from her ball control to play a pretty much error-free game and has registered 357 passes, 562 digs and 46 aces so far in the season.
Conroe
A transfer from Klein, the hyper-athletic and heavy-armed Brown has been a big reason for her team’s early success in the season. A powerful and effective offensive player, the 5’11” Brown has thrived playing under her mother and Conroe coach Charvette. Nicknamed ‘Texas Hammer’, she’s been hammering balls left and right for the Tigers. Her season has has 367 kills, 166 digs, 183 passes and 35 aces so far.

Brown’s presence has certainly been a game-changer for the Tigers, but the team wouldn’t be where it is if team setter Medford wasn’t as efficient and intelligent to make the most of it. The third-year playmaker has shown great maturity with her ball distribution and impressive consistency with her locations. Medford is also a player who stands our in other areas of the game and is one of the team’s top servers and defenders, having tallied 456 assists, 122 digs and 51 aces until now.
Emma Malak

The Tigers have talent on offense and setting, but also on defense, where Malak runs the show. Very quick and technical, the 5’2″ libero has been controlling the backcourt in an impeccable way, making of Conroe one of the hardest teams to score at, and has recently surpassed 1,000 digs in her high school career. Also an aggressive sever, she produced 439 digs, 352 passes and 41 aces up to this point of the season.
