Athletes are in the window where they can take their official visits, they can spend time on campus, be around the team, and weigh their options when it comes to different offers. I’m sure the players I am writing about have been going through this process. They are no secret to the volleyball world, but they are definitely ones who could be next to commit. Let’s take a look at who is still on the board.
Alec Rothe Alec Rothe 6'3" | MB Dublin Scioto | 2024 State #14 Nation OH – Dublin Scioto (OH) – EliteVBTC
Middle Blocker
Rothe has some highlight reels and pictures of her attacking where it looks real close to being photoshopped. She’s 6’2, but as a fast twitch style to her game where she can do some really fun things at the net. She can be used at the next level as a middle blocker or even a pin. Her athleticism is tough to top, being a multi-sport athlete, including a standout on the lacrosse field as well. She is in the heart of Big Ten country, but there are schools on the West Coast with “Cardinal” colors that I’m sure would love to have an athlete like Rothe on their roster.
Babi Gubbins Babi Gubbins 6'3" | OH Mater Dei | 2024 State #18 Nation CA – Mater Dei (CA) – Mizuno Long Beach
Outside Hitter
I’ve seen Gubbins live and have seen plenty of video of her game and each time she updates, she seems to get better. She is a pure six rotation outside hitter who can transition from pass to attack with ease. Playing for high powered Mater Dei in Santa Ana, CA – Gubbins is able to pinpoint every shot. Her vision and IQ is extremely mature and it’s as if she is toying with the other side of the net. She can blast with the best of them, but she can roll, tip, throw, do whatever it takes to score. With her skill set, she is a mismatch nightmare.
Lauren Harden Lauren Harden 6'3" | OH Hamilton Southeastern | 2024 State #36 Nation IN – Hamilton Southeastern (IN) – REV
Outside Hitter
Harden was a treat to watch in the 2022 club season with her REV team, developing from a player who relied heavily on pure athleticism to one who made major gains into developing her all around game as a six rotation outside. She’s easily touching a basketball rim on her approach and is another athlete who is tough to stop, she’s going to score her points. Her contact point is starting to reach where she can touch which creates some crazy angles for the defense. She can score on both pins as well as the backrow. Her high school team has some elite talent and will contend for an Indiana state title – which for the record Indiana high school volleyball is scary good.
Lauryn “Lolo” Lambert Lauryn “Lolo” Lambert 5'9" | OH Plano East Senior | 2024 State #20 Nation TX – Bishop Lynch (TX) – Drive Nation
Outside Hitter/DS
Whoever gets Lambert will automatically upgrade the athleticism in their gym. Lambert can do it all, but the decision might rely upon what she wants to do at the next level. At 5’9, she would be considered undersized at most programs, but this athlete can score points. She is absolutely electric. However, she can also be utilized as a DS/libero, specifically one who can attack out of the backrow. She is joining Drive Nation this club season who is going to have quite the roster. Another uncommitted athlete on this Drive Nation team is Vivian Parker who is one of the top pins in Texas.
Emerson Sellman Emerson Sellman 6'4" | OH Academy of Holy Cross | 2024 State #5 Nation VA – Academy of Holy Cross (MD) – Metro VBC
Outside Hitter
Whenever I go through rankings, hit publish and watch some more volleyball I always think of the ones who could have been a miss (yes, I do miss). Sellman is one who is definitely on the rise among the 2024 outside hitters. She was a huge difference maker for Metro and is the type of athlete top programs are going to want on their side of the net. She’s always had the length, whip, and snap on her arm swing – but now she’s added some physicality at the net and a polished all around game where she can score from anywhere on the court.
Sophie Ledbetter Sophie Ledbetter 5'9" | DS/L Hamilton Southeastern | 2024 State IN – Hamilton Southeastern (IN) – Academy
Libero
Ledbetter has a six rotation outside her whole career, but is making the transition to libero. She can do it all, but she has a really high ceiling as a libero/ds who can provide a swing out of the backrow. At 5’9, she has a wide wingspan and range where she can cover a large chunk of the court. She would make it very apparent to the other side that if they serve at her, she’s just going to put up three options for her setter to do something with the ball. She’s consistent, dependable, and has a presence which is exactly what all coaches want and need.
Payton Petersen Payton Petersen 6'0" | OH Dike-New Hartford | 2024 State #55 Nation IA – Dike-New Hartford (IA) – Six Pack VBC
Outside Hitter
This is a really interesting recruiting situation. Oldest sister, Sydney Petersen played at Texas for four years. Baylee Petersen is playing at UNI (Sydney and Baylee are twins) and Sydney is spending her final year playing at UNI for their head coach Bobbi Petersen who is their mother. Payton’s twin sister, Jaydn most recently committed to UNI this past weekend. Purple and Gold runs in their family to say the least. Payton is the top player in the state of Iowa. She has a volleyball IQ that is beyond most juniors in high school and hits with such pace that makes it tough for the opposition to stay in system. She makes play after play and is also a top defender in the backrow.
Jenna Meitzler Jenna Meitzler 6'1" | S Barrington | 2024 State #117 Nation IL – Barrington (IL) – Sky High
Setter
Meitzler is one of the top setters out of Illinois in the Class of 2024. She has the size and physicality at the net to do a lot of special things while also hitting all the tempos in front and behind her. Teams looking for a dynamic setter to run the show will have Meitzler starred on their list, she is a pure playmaker. Her club teammate, Ruth Ziegler Ruth Ziegler 6'3" | MB Warren Township | 2024 State IL , just committed to Illinois State. The libero for this Sky High squad, Jaimie Marquardt Jaimie Marquardt 5'9" | DS/L Libertyville | 2024 State IL will be another college prospect high on the list of liberos out of Illinois and the Midwest.
Melia Johnson Melia Johnson 6'2" | OH Slinger | 2024 State #140 Nation WI – Slinger (WI) – Milwaukee Sting
Outside Hitter
I have seen Johnson play since she was going from her 14s to 15s year where she had a lot of power as a middle blocker and has now transitioned into a dynamic six rotation outside hitter. She was a key piece to the Milwaukee Sting 16 Gold run last club season. As she continues to develop her all around game she could be a key pick up. She’s in the heart of Big Ten country, but could also be a steal for schools in the South. There is so much upside to her game.
Jada Ingram Jada Ingram 5'11" | MB Washburn Rural | 2024 State #61 Nation KS – Washburn Rural (KS) – Dynasty
Middle Blocker
Ingram was part of one of the top teams in the country with her Dynasty 16 Black squad out of Kansas City last club season and plays for one of the top high school programs in Kansas. She knows how to win. There isn’t anything flashy about her game, she is the gritty, hardworking, get the job done type of middle that every team needs. She does the dirty work. She will close the block, hit a high efficiency, and do what the situation calls for.
