We do the southern half first, and talk about each team and their respective (uncommitted) players. Second, there’s always a few surprises along the way as far as who made it this far. Finally, we get to have you the reader vote on your favorite team. Today’s editions are a bit different, since each quarter of the regional has at least one ranked team in 2A, which hasn’t happened in any of the previews for 3A and 4A.
At Cascade:
10a: #4 Park Tudor (23-5) v #3 Scecina (28-5)
It is safe to say that the winner of this matchup is a prime candidate for not only moving on to the semi state next week, but possibly compete for a state championship on the first Saturday in November. That being said, I’m making this my match of the day in the southern half of the 2A regional. Both teams have over twenty wins, both teams have a ton of club talent on each roster, and both teams have senior experience and leadership, coupled with some youth that showcase the future of both programs. For the Panthers, I like freshman Jordin Golden Jordin Golden 5'8" | MB Park Tudor | 2026 State IN (’26, 5-8 MB), who is a springy and athletic middle that might project to being a right side at the next level. Her athleticism should keep Scecina honest on defense. For the Crusaders, senior Allison Daves Allison Daves 5'9" | RS Scecina | 2023 State IN (’23, 5-10 RS) has been my go-to for years, and her left arm is a hammer that needs to be accounted for at all times. For each of the last two seasons, she’s collected over 300 kills while hitting north of .300. Not bad for a primary attacker.
12:30p: Southmont (15-14) v Northeastern (20-11)
This is the wild-card matchup that I have no earthly idea how to predict. The Mounties are riding high after sweeping all three matches in their sectional, finally peeking their heads over .500 this season. We’re keeping an eye on the experienced and talented Chelsea Veatch Chelsea Veatch 5'9" | OH Southmont | 2023 State IN (’23, 5-9 RS/OH), who does a little of everything for Southmont. The volleyball IQ runs deep in her family; sister Sidney is a setter at IUPUI. The Knights nearly did the same in their sectional, dropping only one set in their three matches. This is a hard team to figure out—after losing to both Union County and Hagerstown earlier in the season, they beat both in the sectional. Ella Coddington Ella Coddington 5'9" | S Northeastern | 2024 State IN (’24, 5-9 S) is who should be a key figure in Northeastern’s continued success, as a balanced offense will be necessary to keep the Mounties guessing.
Vote for your winner of the Cascade regional:
At Mitchell:
11a: Hauser (24-10) v #8 Linton-Stockton (25-5)
The athleticism versus the experience. As long as I’ve lived here in Indiana, Hauser has always brought hyper-athletic kids to every sport every time, especially in women’s athletics. All of these kids play multiple sports, and seem destined to be participating in some sport or another—or all of them. Kenze Bostic Kenze Bostic 5'10" | MB Hauser | 2024 State IN (’24, 5-11 MB) is a perfect example of that, and should be leaned upon by the rest of the Jets to carry this team to another win. The eighth-ranked Miners, however, have a ton of club experience up and down their roster, and play a tougher-than-average schedule to prove it. Freshman Ella Warrick Ella Warrick 5'9" | OH Linton-Stockton | 2026 State IN (’26, 5-9 OH) has all of the tools and the fire to motivate this squad to continue their excellent run this fall.
1:30p: Brownstown Central (17-15) v North Posey (26-7)
Do NOT, under any circumstance, scoff at the Braves’ record. BC plays everyone and anyone they can, regardless of size or experience. It’s what’s propelled this program to being the blue-blood volleyball school that they are, complete with a recent state title. Now, with most of that roster graduated, comes the reload. Jaydynn Yeadon Jaydynn Yeadon 5'6" | DS/L Brownstown Central | 2025 State IN (’25, 5-6 DS/L) is the first-contact kid you need to get the job done in late October, and will need to do more than usual to get past the Vikings. North Posey, however, has size and strength on their side, led by Kaity Oakley (’25, 5-11 MB), who can attack as an M2 or an M1 with similar ease. Ball-control versus power—my kind of matchup.
