Bowling Green, winner of District 14, is the obvious people’s favorite in this match where they’ve had an almost undefeated season going 34-2 and only dropped matches to McGill-Toolen, one of the best high school teams in Alabama, and then Elizabethtown in a five set thriller 13-15. The Lady Purples have been undefeated in district and region with only dropping 3 sets to Logan County total. Their resume doesn’t just stop there. This is their second straight district championship and third region appearance in a row making them #3 in the state according to MaxPreps and #1 in RPI according to KHSAA. District 14’s most valuable player, freshman, Amirra Bailey Amirra Bailey MB Bowling Green | 2026 KY , leads the Purples with 315 kills on the season, averaging 3.15 kills a set. Bailey is a presence at the net and helps the team offensively and defensively in so many ways. Plus, Bowling Green has two senior left sides that play all the way around, Lily-Kate Carver Lily-Kate Carver 5'8" | OH Bowling Green | 2023 State KY and Elizabeth Maglinger Elizabeth Maglinger OH Bowling Green | 2023 State KY , that lead the team with their scrappy defense and crafty hitting finesse. Then, you add in senior setter, Kaia Barnett Kaia Barnett 5'8" | S Bowling Green | 2023 State KY , and senior libero, Mackenzie Austin Mackenzie Austin DS/L Bowling Green | 2023 KY , and you realize how talented this team really is. Barnett is a force in every position and truly holds the team together in every angle. She is the glue, and then Austin is the backbone of this team. None of their success would be possible without Austin’s performance in the back row.
Next up, Todd-County Central has impressed me throughout the year and only gotten better since the start of the season. With Steve Lyne coaching this team, they have a positive mindset in every game and always have a plan. Just like Bowling Green though, they have some senior studs that really make this team. Their two starting outside hitters, Lucy Chester Lucy Chester OH Todd County Central | 2023 State KY and Lanie Bivins, are just gifted in the sport of volleyball. Chester can raise up on the left and put any ball away. Bivins can swing at a ball from absolutely anywhere on the floor with some power. What really makes this team hard to defend is Chester and Bivins are always an option whether it’s in the front or the back row. Together, they’ve scored about 3/4 of the team’s kills with 614 and each average around 3.5 kills a set. The Lady Rebels setter, Addileigh Wofford Addileigh Wofford S Todd County Central | 2023 State KY , keeps this team steady throughout any game with her smooth hands and smart offensive mind. Wofford knows where to set the ball and makes great decisions whether she chooses to dump it or go quick tempo with her hitters.
I know for me this was a tough matchup to see because I’ve enjoyed watching both of these teams grow throughout the season, and all of these seniors deserve greatness. You won’t want to miss these two battle it out on Tuesday!!
