The idea is to do things a little bit differently this year, so after every match I attend, I’ll be posting a quick article highlighting the players that stood out the most in that particular encounter.
On Tuesday, October 11, I went to the non-conference match between the Tompkins Falcons and the Clear Creek Wildcats. Although that match won’t interfere with the postseason aspirations of these teams, it was a good opportunity two sides that have what it takes to make deep playoff runs.
The Falcons were dominant, winning the match in three sets (25-19, 25-17, 25-19) and improving their impressive season record to 32-3. The Wildcats, who are now at 23-15 for the season, also showed good things and should be confident in their playoff hopes.

Christin Cowart

The sophomore middle blocker started to earn more playing time in the second half of the season and could become an interesting piece for the Falcons in the postseason in a position where there’s been some rotation. She had an excellent blocking performance against Clear Creek, tallying three blocks, and was impressive in reading the opposing setters and moving quickly to the pins. Cowart was also vigilant at the net to handle overpasses and took advantage of her high contact point and power to score with her offense, ranking second in the team in kills with ten.
Skrabanek displayed excellent offensive variation, hitting quite a few different sets and registering seven kills. She was pretty efficient with the traditional wide set at the pin, but also scored at a very good rate when hitting a quicker set, more toward the middle. Skrabanek was also solid with her serve-receive (12 passes) and defense (eight digs) and caused problems to Clear Creek’s serve-receive system with her topspin jump serve, especially in a long serving run she had on set two.
Tompkins’ scoring machine was her usual self on offense, jumping high and hitting the ball hard with great efficiency to score 14 points in kills (73.7% kill rate). Tchouangwa can hit from anywhere on the and is getting more and more consistent as the season progresses. She also had some success with her blocking, tallying two stuffs, was very productive with her serve-receive, producing seven passes, and registered eight digs.
Sneed was one of Clear Creek’s top offensive options against Tompkins’ big and efficient block. She hit from the left and the right, registering eight kills, and had good success when tooling the block. Sneed had nine serves going her way and delivered all of them, besides also tallying two digs. She had one block and led the Wildcats in aces with two and had a good run on set three.

Clear Creek’s libero dealt with Tompkins’ strong serving well for the most part, registering 21 passes and just two errors despite covering half of the court. She also did a good job in recovering balls when covering her hitters, led the team in digs with 12, several of which were on set three, and also had some good serving runs.
