Continue ReadingAt approximately 1:30 on Ball State’s campus, Linton-Stockton will play an away match for the 2A title against Wapahani. In reality, this will be labeled as a “neutral site”, but the Raiders will arrive in droves, since it’s barely down the street from their own campus. Here are the teams, how their respective semi state matches went, and the key players to winning it all.
#2 Wapahani (31-5)
Is this their year? Two title appearances in the last three seasons, plus a heartbreaker to Bellmont (3A) in the sectional last season, are what this graduating class has in their storied history. For Chloe Cook Chloe Cook 5'9" | OH Wapahani | 2023 State IN (’23, 5-9 OH), Camryn Wise Camryn Wise 5'11" | MB Wapahani | 2023 State IN (’23, 5-10 MB, Ball State commit) and Reese Baker Reese Baker 5'4" | DS/L Wapahani | 2023 State IN (’23, 5-4 DS/L, Ball State commit), the combined record of 116-22 is impressive, and no other team in 2A has been even close to as successful. But wouldn’t it be better to get that 117th win and hoist the state title trophy? Chloe was certainly dedicated to making it happen, with a match-high 23 kills while hitting .488 against defending state champ Andrean. Camryn did Camryn things, adding 16 kills and 4 blocks last Saturday. Without Reese however (15 digs, 4 aces), I’m not sure this is possible. The three of them are Munciana through and through, and would put a much-earned stamp on three amazing careers.
#8 Linton-Stockton (28-5)
The Miners had no slouch of an opponent, either, winning in 5 over then-#3 Scecina. This was after they earned their first-ever regional title. In a year of firsts, why not add one more? Spitfire Sophie Hale Sophie Hale 5'5" | DS/L Linton-Stockton | 2024 State IN (’24, 5-5 OH) will most likely be a defender at the next level, but her 14 kills led the Miners and will continue to be the offensive force they need. Want some size? Sophomore Taryn Thuis Taryn Thuis 6'2" | RS Linton-Stockton | 2025 State IN (’25, 6-2 RS) has made a name for herself this postseason, adding 13 kills of her own, hitting a match-high .357 and blocking eight. Freshman phenom Ella Warrick Ella Warrick 5'9" | OH Linton-Stockton | 2026 State IN (’26, 5-9 OH), one of three volleyball Warricks to pass through L-S’s halls, led the team with 19 digs against Scecina. Is this their year? Even if they fall in the final, all three of these players return next fall, which could mark the beginning of making their own history.
