What’s the story of this class?
This class has dealt with a lot of adversity. Many started their recruiting journeys while COVID protocols were still in place. Some even committed while those protocols were at their strictest. There were also a lot of recruiting changes during their high school years. For example, Saige Damrow Saige Damrow 5'8" | DS/L Howards Grove | 2023 State #17 Nation WI , the top recruit in the class, committed before she was in high school. Those rules changed shortly after her verbal commitment.
This class is talented and gritty and has shown a lot of resilience throughout their high school careers. They have impressed me every step of the way with their skills, maturity, and potential.
There was a lot of movement…
You might think that by senior year there is not a lot of movement. But I am happy to say you are wrong. There was even movement in the top 10! Morgan Kealy Morgan Kealy 5'11" | S River Falls | 2023 State WI , Cordelia Kearns Cordelia Kearns 6'1" | OH Oconomowoc | 2023 State WI , Karissa Fortune Karissa Fortune 6'2" | OH Appleton North | 2023 State WI , and Molly Berezowitz Molly Berezowitz DS/L Burlington | 2023 State WI all made moves in the top 10. There was movement all throughout the rankings. Hannah Trotter Hannah Trotter 5'10" | S Wisconsin Lutheran | 2023 State WI , Kenna Kornely Kenna Kornely 5'8" | OH Burlington | 2023 State WI , and Jozie Braund Jozie Braund 5'9" | OH Sauk Prairie | 2024 State WI all made big jumps in the rankings as well. All in all, we had over 40 athletes jump in the rankings.
High-level leaders have emerged.
It is always fun to watch leaders emerge. Sometimes it comes in athletes taking on new roles or stepping up in tough matches. Other times it is through their communication and efforts on the court. Athletes who impressed as leaders recently include Maddy McGath Maddy McGath MB Brookfield East | 2023 State WI , Grace Nommenson, Kyleigh Coghlan Kyleigh Coghlan 5'6" | DS/L Kettle Moraine | 2023 State WI , Molly Berezowitz Molly Berezowitz DS/L Burlington | 2023 State WI , Bella Lipski Bella Lipski MB DSHA | 2023 State WI , and more. These athletes were crucial to the success of their high school team.
Top-ranked athletes committed for other sports.
I find multi-sport athletes, especially at the highest levels, so impressive. They juggle crazy schedules and need to balance being competitive with staying healthy. This class has a number of athletes who committed to playing other sports in college. Paige Miller Paige Miller 5'10" | DS/L Kaukauna | 2023 State WI (Wisconsin – Softball), Grace Grocholski Grace Grocholski 5'10" | OH Kettle Moraine | 2023 State WI (West Virginia – Basketball), Megan Schultz (UW-Green Bay – Basketball), Jorey Buwalda Jorey Buwalda 6'0" | S Randolph | 2023 State WI (UW-Milwaukee, Basketball) and Lexi Bugajski Lexi Bugajski 6'0" | S New Berlin Eisenhower | 2023 State WI (Appalachian State – Basketball) are just a few.
It will be sad to see them go, but exciting to see them succeed at the collegiate level.
This is a class we have been ranking since their freshman year. Whether or not they are playing in college, these athletes will go on to do amazing things in the world! Some may be leaving this winter to train with their college teams, while others still have one last club season and a semester of high school to go. We truly cannot wait to see what they can do.
