Five Setters Available Right Now

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>We chatted about five liberi yesterday that are still available to play somewhere in the fall of '23. Those are the FIRST contact geniuses. It only makes sense for us to move to the second contact, where setters can make or break your rally, set, match or season. Here are five still available, with one of them being a recent state champion.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2>[player_tooltip player_id='85907' first='Mallory' last='Dills'], 5-9, Cathedral, Munciana (22)</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Fast and athletic, Mallory has been on the high-level club scene for quite some time, and plays high-level high school ball as well. Although she was mostly used as a right side this past high school season, she's more of the setting type. Here are some career numbers for her four years of work to give you a general idea of her all-around skill: 428 kills, 192 assists, 79 blocks, 772 digs and 1797 assists. Looks to me as we have the true definition of well-rounded.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2>[player_tooltip player_id='99585' first='Monica' last='Jones'], 5-8, Roncalli, Rev (22)</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Quiet and unassuming, Monica is a no-nonsense, high-level setter who gets the job done. No flash, no yelling and screaming, just a leader-by-example type of setter who locates the ball well and is used to high-level play. Roncalli always finds themselves in the top ten in 4A in the state of Indiana, while her Rev team recently medaled in the club postseason this past summer. Her play has been limited by setting in three rotations for the majority of her career, so whomever picks her up gets someone with (1) plenty to prove, and (2) low mileage on her body. In her three years at Roncalli, Miss Jones amassed 1745 assists and 614 digs. This is a defensive-minded setter, if there ever was one.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2>[player_tooltip player_id='114356' first='Macie' last='Bowden'], 5-7, Wapahani, Munciana (22)</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Not surprising to see another Munciana setter on this list, since ball-control training is their specialty. What <em>is</em> surprising is that this 1st team All-State honoree and 2A state champ is still available. Numbers don't lie: in four high school seasons, Macie dished out nearly 3500 assists. She's also a defensive-minded setter, scooping nearly 800 digs in her career. Miss Bowden is a plug-and-play setter RIGHT NOW, with nearly double the assists as the next most on this availability list. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2>[player_tooltip player_id='92615' first='Natalie' last='Blaufuss'], 5-8, Homestead, [program_tooltip program_id='430155' first='Team' last='Pineapple'] (22)</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Mostly used as a three-rotation setter in her high school career, Natalie is a defense-first setter (see the theme here?). She's smooth, athletic, locates the ball well and is used to winning. Similar to [player_tooltip player_id='99585' first='Monica' last='Jones'] listed above, she's got a lot of tread on her tires, meaning to me that she's far from done with her career and has energy and stamina to burn. I could easily see Natalie as a setter at an NAIA-level school, where subs are unlimited and she'd be able to play regularly.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2>[player_tooltip player_id='95425' first='Lizzie' last='Glassburn'], 5-8, South Newton, Boiler Juniors (22)</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Another high-level, used-to-winning, defensive-minded setter dots this list, who has been the only setter the Rebels have ever known for four years of winning. She doled out nearly 3000 assists and almost 1000 digs in her career, and aside from a tough loss to eventual state champion Blackhawk Christian a couple of weeks ago, saw success every year. Her over 400 aces in her career make her the most deadly server on this list, just in case you wanted to know about her aggression. Lizzie is another plug-and-play kid who can start right now in college with the right fit and the passing around her.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
