When [player_tooltip player_id='66319' first='Harper' last='Murray'] first stepped onto a volleyball court as a freshman for Ann Arbor Skyline, the writing was on the wall that she could be a future Miss Volleyball winner.

Over the last for years, Murray solidified that with a stellar prep career and multiple national achievements during her time in club volleyball with Legacy.

On Monday, Murray was awarded with the 2022 Miss Volleyball Award.

“It represents hard work and drive and I think I have worked really hard to get to this point,” Murray said of what the honor means to her. “Miss Volleyball was a milestone that I wanted to reach, and I did that. I am proud of myself, but I couldn't have done this without my coaches and teammates.”

To catch Murray off guard with the award presentation, she was told something was wrong with her National Letter of Intent to Nebraska and she needed to go to the gym to do another signing.

As she walked in, she was greeted by friends, family and coaches before being given the award.

“I was convinced that I was going into the gym to do that and when I opened the doors, there were all these teachers and students and coaches. When I sat down to sign, they brought out the trophy and my mouth just dropped,” she said. “I was not expecting that at all. It was very exciting and I am super honored to receive the award.”

Over Murray's time at Skyline, she helped the Eagles reach Battle Creek on two occasions. They were a semifinalist in 2019, and the Division 1 runner-up in 2021.

This season, Murray put up 663 kills, 372 digs and 73 aces. For her career at Skyline, Murray had 2,425 kills, 1,423 digs, 362 aces and 130 blocks.

“High school is important to get in the reps and really work on the details of your game. It's also a time to enjoy playing volleyball with your friends and teammates,” Murray said. “If you aren't having fun playing in high school, it just doesn't seem worth it. I had a great time at Skyline. It was important for me to be there for my teammates and just work hard for them and enjoy those moments together.”

As a club player, Murray has helped Legacy win multiple Open national championships during her career while working her way toward being the No. 1 ranked player in Prep Dig's Class of 2023 rankings.

“I've always had a great support system between my mom and my sister, and my coaches in high school and club. Even when I am struggling with pressure or self-confidence and feeling overwhelmed, I always have people to rely on and to talk to about it,” Murray said. “I am very lucky for that. I feel like I've handled that pressure pretty well and I know it's only going to get stronger as I head to Nebraska, but I am ready for it.”
