As we prepare for the tournament, it’s a good opportunity for us to feature some of the most intriguing players from each of the 24 teams that will compete this week in Garland. We’ve been highlighting the top players to watch (one from each team) in each of the six divisions and, as our series moves forward, it’s time we analyze division 4A.
Players To Watch
Jordyn Gove
Jordyn Gove
One of Randall’s captains, Gove has been more than a leader for the team, but a true difference-maker. A very solid all-around player, the 5’11” outside hitter is pretty effective on offense and bails the team out of difficult situations with her strong and efficient swings. Gove, who’s also capable of hitting from the right and even the middle, is very good at finding gaps on the block and open spots on the court to score and is really difficult to stop because of her high volleyball IQ.
Garrison has been a force for the Chaparrals all season, producing at a very large scale in several areas of the game. The 5’11” outside hitter is a powerful and resourceful offensive player, but has been a factor also on blocking, serving and defense. Garrison, who recently surpassed 2,000 kills for her high school career, has amassed 577 kills, 406 digs, 400 passes, 54 blocks and 45 aces this season alone.
Brooke Guerrero

Set to make their first State Tournament appearance, Hargrave will rely a lot on the versatility and the production of Guerrero. Capable of playing in multiple positions, she’s been more often used as a pin hitter this season, where her all-around game benefits the team the most. Guerrero is technical and powerful, but what makes of her a special player is her volleyball IQ, which allows her to make good decisions and find creative solutions to difficult situations.
A defensive specialist during the last club season, McKay has been used as an outside hitter with Belville and has been able to help the team in a strong way. Her offensive game is certainly strong enough for her to get very good production at the net and her backcourt skills are possibly the best in the entire squad. McKay is also a formidable server.
