Until Sunday, the four regional champions in each of the state’s six divisions will battle for the state title.
As we follow the tournament, it’s a good opportunity for us to feature some of the most intriguing players from each of the 24 teams that are competing this week in Garland. We’ve already covered the first five divisions, so now, on the final piece of our series, let’s take a look at division 6A, which is set to get on the court on Friday.
Players to Watch
The talented senior setter has led Keller to their second-straight State Tournament appearance with her excellent play. One of the top playmakers in the entire state, Polivka has been in excellent form this season and her guidance and production have been huge for the Indians. The setter has tallied impressive numbers with her assists (1,256 and counting), but has also been effective in other areas, leading the team in aces (62) and ranking second in blocks (71) and fourth in digs (284).
Dewine is another setter who plays a massive role in her team. One of the leaders of a strong The Woodlands team which is set to make its first State Tournament appearance in five years, she can execute a lot of different skills at the highest level. Always calm and focused, Dewine is undoubtedly a reference for the Highlanders, who rely on her to succeed. She’s been having a fantastic senior season, having tallied 679 assists, 425 kills, 44 aces, 71 blocks and 417 digs.
Tompkins have several players with incredible talent in their roster, but if there’s one of them with the potential to take a match over against anyone, that’s Tchouangwa. The athletic right side hitter has been a force at the net and has delivered excellent performances in the playoffs, scoring in bunches and in critical moments for the Falcon. Due to her background as an outside hitter, Tchouangwa is also having solid contributions with her passing and defense too. She leads the team in kills (590) and blocks (51) and ranks second in digs (504) and fourth in passes (362).
Plante has guided Dripping Springs to the State Tournament in the first season in division 6A with her excellent all-around game and massive productivity during the entire season. The powerful outside hitter has been a consistent point-scorer for the Lady Tigers, but has helped well beyond that. Plante leads Dripping Springs in kills (528), aces (70) and passes (697) and ranks second in digs (469).
