Top Performers in the District Rounds

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The post-season has begun at full steam and this 2022 edition of the MHSAA State Volleyball Tournament has started off with a bang!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Lots of headlines have come out of the opening week of the MHSAA State Volleyball Tournament and Prep Dig has you covered for all you need to know going into the Regional rounds!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Upsets galore and career defining performances were center stage in the district rounds and here were some of the top performers.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>MVP</strong> [player_tooltip player_id='140493' first='Grace' last='Wenaas'] - Notre Dame Prep</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Down goes No. 1! In the fashion of a sweep, Notre Dame Prep found themselves in another regional behind the muscle of [player_tooltip player_id='140493' first='Grace' last='Wenaas']. The 6'0 middle blocker has been leading the charge for the Irish all season long averaging close to 4.5 kills and close to a block per set. Wenaas dialed up the heat to an 11 and fired away 19 kills while knocking down 9 blocks in the sweep over Country Day in the District final.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='156343' first='Navea' last='Gauthier'] - Shelby</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I really couldn't believe my eyes when looking at these numbers, because WOW! If it weren't for the fact that [player_tooltip player_id='156343' first='Navea' last='Gauthier'] has been putting up these kind of numbers for the entire season now, I wouldn't believe them. Racking up 84 kills over 10 sets, Gauthier is the definition of unstoppable. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='172195' first='Kacee' last='Gray'] - Cass City</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>As previewed, [player_tooltip player_id='172195' first='Kacee' last='Gray'] has started off the month of November guns blazing. Between sweeps over Unionville-Sebewaing and Bad Axe in the semifinal and finals, Gray knocked down over 30 kills. Gray and company have been on a real mean streak lately. With performances like this, I can see it be very indicative of how the regional rounds may go.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='189713' first='Addison' last='Ashley'] - Saline</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Saving your best for the right time, Saline middle blocker [player_tooltip player_id='189713' first='Addison' last='Ashley'] had a career match on Saturday night in the Lincoln district final. While Ashley has been a mainstay in the middle all season long, she really came to play against SEC foe, Lincoln. Going 10-0-12 on the night, Lincoln had no answers for the sophomore middle until set 3 before they were able to get a hand on an Ashley swing.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='222361' first='Clara' last='Gyomory'] - North Branch</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Continuing to prove her worth as one of the leading scorers for this Bronco squad, [player_tooltip player_id='222361' first='Clara' last='Gyomory'] was unstoppable throughout the first few rounds of the tournament. Not only was she big in pushing her team through the brawl in the semis versus Imlay City, but she was critical in their sweeps in the opening round and finals. Over three games, Gyomory knocked down 29 kills to a smooth .426 clip.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='66314' first='Kennedy' last='Louisell'] - Forest Hills Northern</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Forest Hills Northern is very much a heavy favorite for the Division 1 state crown. And there's no denying the determination for that crown than this type of performance during districts. [player_tooltip player_id='66314' first='Kennedy' last='Louisell'] (UNCG), a Miss Volleyball nominee and a Player of the Year contender was hard to contain. Knocking off both Kenowa Hills and Coopersville in the way of sweeps, Louisell tore down 43 kills on the week.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='226941' first='Jaidyn' last='Vanochten'] - Reese</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Despite in a losing effort, you can't help but commend the efforts by this freshman libero. Stepping into some pretty big shoes for the reigning Division 3 champs and [player_tooltip player_id='226941' first='Jaidyn' last='Vanochten'] did all that she could. Against Saginaw Valley Lutheran, the Rockets just narrowly lost out on another tournament run.
