Continue ReadingI thought we would switch it up from the statistics series and make our 4th region Christmas selections. What do I mean by this exactly? Well, as I’m sure you were watching the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championships, they picked their Thanksgiving dinner with Coach Kelly Sheffield being the stuffing. I thought it would be a little bit of fun if I wrote about the the best 4th Region players this past season but with a little Christmas spin. I’m getting a little bit creative here, so just remember the point is to highlight these studs and their talents! Here’s my Christmas dinner selections.
<< Turkey >> There’s no meal without the turkey. These are three studs that were the center of their team.
• Kaia Barnett Kaia Barnett 5'8" | S Bowling Green | 2023 State KY (Bowling Green)– Leading Bowling Green to their first-ever semi finals appearance, Kaia Barnett Kaia Barnett 5'8" | S Bowling Green | 2023 State KY was the heart and soul of her team. With 745 assists, 207 kills, 260 digs, and 97 service aces, this senior setter was one to reckon with. Barnett is still uncommitted and searching for the right fit. Any coach would be lucky to have this kid.
• Ana Walker (Allen-County Scottsville)– The go-to hitter for the team, senior attacker, Ana Walker, had the team-high of 379 kills and averaged 3.68 kills per set. She also added 41 blocks, 255 digs, and 62 service aces. A force for Allen-County Scottsville, Ana Walker will forever be remembered.
• Aubrey Packer Aubrey Packer OH Greenwood | 2024 State KY (Greenwood)– Having the team-high of 405 kills, Aubrey Packer Aubrey Packer OH Greenwood | 2024 State KY , junior outside hitter, led her Greenwood squad from every angle. She also played all the way around and tallied 226 digs and 46 service aces. Greenwood relied on this star, and it showed in the tournament where she had two-double doubles. Packer had 200 more kills than anyone on the team and proved her leadership role.
<< Mashed Potatoes >> You always forget about the classic side, mashed potatoes. Here’s two studs that made silent waves but had a huge impact.
• Mackenzie Austin Mackenzie Austin DS/L Bowling Green | 2023 KY (Bowling Green)– Senior libero for Bowling Green, Mackenzie Austin Mackenzie Austin DS/L Bowling Green | 2023 KY was always so smooth in serve receive that you never even noticed she was there. The ball would just simply go to target, or there’d be a huge dig to keep the rally going, and then you’d realize that was Austin’s doing. She gathered 421 digs and 57 service aces while silently leading the team from the back row.
• Avery Hart (Russell County)– Junior setter for Russell County, Avery Hart never made her presence known vocally, but she helped the team run their balanced offense and kept the team grounded defensively. With 804 assists and averaging 8.12 assists per set, Avery Hart was always great about doing her job. She helped four hitters receive over 100 kills and tallied the team-high digs with 242 and service aces of 82.
<< Mac and Cheese >> The comfort food, the safe haven, and your go-to when you need it the most. Here are two players that provided the satisfaction for their team.
• Paige Logsdon (South Warren)– The star all-around outside hitter for South Warren, senior, Paige Logsdon, provided leadership for her team all year. She was the accountable player that made the kill or dig for the team. With 263 kills, 32 blocks, 340 digs, and 63 service aces, Logsdon was a teammate you could put faith in for every position.
• Lanie Bivins (Todd County Central)– If you’re in a pickle and need a kill, Lanie Bivins is your girl. A senior attacker for Todd County Central, Bivins could literally hit from every angle. I personally loved her slide approach and swings from the right which gave me great happiness. Bivins finished the year with 291 digs, 18 blocks, 222 digs, and 62 service aces.
<< Your Favorite Pie >> You can’t end a Christmas dinner without your favorite pie. Maybe salted caramel, chocolate, spiced apple, or grandma’s recipe. These are two stars that made the end of every play the best. Sweet or spicy but always just beautiful to watch.
• Amirra Bailey Amirra Bailey MB Bowling Green | 2026 KY (Bowling Green)– The star freshman from Bowling Green High School, Amirra Bailey Amirra Bailey MB Bowling Green | 2026 KY finished with the most kills for her team at 390 and most blocks with 107. When she got ahold of a ball, Bailey could literally silence the gym. She might be tall at a height of 6’4, but she also plays for the pure love of volleyball. Bailey will be a favorite to watch for years to come.
• Aubrey Sears Aubrey Sears OH Logan County | 2025 State KY (Logan County)– Lastly, the stud sophomore from Logan County, Aubrey Sears Aubrey Sears OH Logan County | 2025 State KY proved to be one of the best hitters in the region. Averaging 4.01 kills per set, Sears ended with 405 kills on the year. Sears wants to hit the ball with power and make a statement, so it’s always pretty clear when she’s in the game. With two years left of high school, Sears will be a favorite to watch.
