I was at the FAST Complex on Sunday to watch the top eight teams of the 15 Open division compete in the gold bracket and it was exciting to see some new faces emerge and display excellent playing level and intriguing skills – Houston Juniors ‘ HJV 15 Elite ended up as the division winners, with TAV Houston 15 Adidas finishing second.
We’ll take the days after the event to highlight some of the individual standouts of the 15 Open division and now it’s time to give a shoutout to the most productive right side hitters who played on Saturday.
Crowley impressed me with how consistent and effective she was when hitting from the right for her TAV Houston 15 Adidas team. She’s a very complete hitter, combining size, power and finesse, and uses each of these elements really well to put the ball down. She likes to hit a quicker, shorter set behind the setter and has excellent body control to adjust to any sets that go her way.

A lefty with incredible length and mobility, Hickman handled HJV 15 Elite’s hitting duties on the right with ease. Her reach is a massive asset to her game and she knows how to use it very well, either hitting around the block or targeting the blockers’ fingers to tool them. She made some really impressive plays on the right, but also displayed great hustle when she had to play defense or track a loose ball. Hickman’s blocking is also very good as she has good footwork, good reading and an aggressive hands placement.

Hennessee handled her offensive duties with her AP 15 Adidas team extremely well, offering her setter a viable scoring option from the right. Although she’s a technical player too, her offensive game is built on her tremendous firepower. Hennessee has good size and a cannon of a right arm, a combination that allows her to hit the ball hard even she’s set off the net. Despite that, she’s also pretty consistent, making very few mistakes.
Carli Huff
Carli Huff
Huff was her team’s Texas Legacy 15 Elite’s heavy hitter during the FAST Warm Up. Very long and a good jumper, she got set in difficult situations and used her impressive power to score against set blocks. Huff’s long arms also make of her a difficult blocker to go up against. She also adds a lot of value on the backcourt with her tough serve and good plays on defense.
Olivia Hernandez
Olivia Hernandez
Hernandez was the most effective player in her SA Juniors 15 Adidas team and because of that she was set quite a lot during the tournament. She has good size and a heavy right arm, but displayed interesting resources and good decision-making to score, often turning to tips and roll shots to put the ball down.
