Sarah’s gratitude:
“I want to thank God for being my rock in everything; I would be no where if I didn’t trust in his plan for my life and lean into him during the hard times. Thank you to my family for always supporting me on and off the court and loving me always. Thank you to my coaches and teammates for developing me to become the player I am today, always motivating me to keep going, and for creating an environment where I can thrive. Lastly, thank you to my friends and mentors for being my biggest cheerleaders. Truly would not be where I am without all of these amazing people that continue to pour into me.”

Sarah’s voice on growth through the UA All-America experience:
“Being a part of UA All-America has been so much fun to play alongside high level athletes and express our love for the sport together. It has deepened my passion for the sport and I have also met some great friends along the way.”
Sarah’s advice to younger athletes chasing the same path:
“Some advice that I would give to younger girls is to never let anything or anyone stop you from focusing on and achieving your goals. Put yourself in environments where you can thrive and grow in your skills but also deepen your love for this amazing sport. Always give it your all and have no regrets. No matter what you are doing, injured or healthy, set yourself up for success in all aspects of life by creating healthy habits and keeping track of mini and large goals.”

Hickman will play for HJV 17 Elite in the Power Pool of the 17s division. Called up for the US U19 national team last year, she’s one of the top right sides in the country and is a difference-maker at all levels on the court. A 6’5″ player, she’s excellent at making the most of her length at the net, using it to beat opposing blockers and put the ball down. A lefty, Hickman has tremendous range in her offense, and she’s unpredictable at the net, using each of her options very intelligently and efficiently, thanks to her unwavering calm on the court. She’s a tough matchup with any opposing hitters defensively too, using her long arms to take up a lot of space at the net and doing a great job of reading them and reacting with quick moves.

A lefty with massive length and excellent court vision, she’s one of the top offensive players in the state in her age group, making contact with the ball at a very high point and finding sharp angles for her swings. Hickman is also a lockdown blocker, who covers a lot of space with her long right arms at the net and is excellent at making last-second moves to shut opponents down. She’s been with the USA youth national team more than once now and is extremely mature and cold-blooded on the court, being typically the player who gets on the ball in key moments of matches.
