We had tons of milestones reached: players leaving high schools with records from all over the area and leaving marks on the MSHSAA state record books. Here is a list of the Saint Louis Area Second Team Members.
Jade Roth Jade Roth 6'0" | MB Farmington | 2023 State MO – Middle – Farmington
The Lindenwood recruit is one to keep an eye on at the next level. She can quickly bounce off the floor and has an enormous wingspan; I’ve seen her bounce many balls. She has unreal potential to be a deadly attacker. She finished her career with 1101 kills and 341 blocks.
Elise Paul Elise Paul 6'0" | MB Lutheran South | 2023 State MO – Middle – Lutheran South
Lutheran South has had tremendous players over the years, and Elise Paul Elise Paul 6'0" | MB Lutheran South | 2023 State MO is right up there with them. Paul is a tall 6’0″ athletic middle that leaves Lutheran South with 683 kills, 269 blocks, and hit .330 for her career. I could see her staying in the middle or swinging opposite, and her commitment is unknown but how someone hasn’t grabbed her is beyond me.
Josey Wahlers – Middle – Saxony Lutheran
The 6’0″ middle for the Crusaders had a monster season at Saxony and would finish with 520 career kills and 249 blocks. Wahlers will leave Saxony as the career kill and blocking leader.
Reese Gray Reese Gray 5'8" | OH Lesterville | 2023 State MO – Outside – Lesterville
Gray leaves a legacy for the Class 1 power as she became the school and the state’s all-time career kill leader with 2056 kills. Toss in her 1759 career digs, and she is sitting in 4th place for digs. Also named the KTJJ Dream Team Player of the Year.
Emma Brune Emma Brune 5'9" | OH Sullivan | 2023 State MO – Outside – Sullivan
Overcoming obstacles, Brune leaves a legacy at Sullivan as one of the best to play for the Eagles. A hard-hitting and intelligent outside hitter finished leaves as the school’s career kill leader with 1003. Commitment is unknown, but this one can’t be overlooked.
Mattie Reynolds Mattie Reynolds 5'9" | OH Lutheran St. Charles | 2023 State MO – Outside – Lutheran
Reynolds leaves her mark with 1148 career kills and 737 digs. Each season the outside for the Cougars would almost double her kill totals from the previous year. Commitment is unknown, but she would be a significant pick-up for the next level.
Emma Clark Emma Clark 5'9" | S John Burroughs | 2023 State MO – Setter – Burroughs
Clark leaves Burroughs as the school’s all-time assists leader with 2146 and a big reason why Burroughs has won the last three district titles. She’s a high motor setter with great hands, provides a big block and plays tough defense, and will be a program pleased next year.
Addison Kersting Addison Kersting 5'11" | S St. Charles | 2023 State MO – Opposite/Setter – St. Charles
Addison leaves the Pirates program as one of the best all-around players. She can hit, pass, set, block, and play defense and is a legit stat stuffer for St. Charles. She will make a difference at Troy University and brings with her career numbers 1607 assists, 748 digs, and 652 kills.
Ella Gaona Ella Gaona 5'6" | DS/L Nerinx Hall | 2023 State MO – Libero – Nerinx Hall
Florida State has a tough libero coming in from Nerinx Hall. Ella will leave the Markers program as one of the best liberos in school history, with 1282 career digs. Ella is a fiery defender, and passion pours out of her.
Cece Watts – Libero – Parkway West
Watts has played just about everywhere for the Longhorns in her career but is a next-level libero. She’s a tremendous athlete that hit outside last year and finished with 212 kills, but when she’s playing libero, that’s her element. A tough kid that takes up a lot of space and is super quick. Watts finishes her tenure with 931 career digs, 218 kills, and a primary passer and will be a tough one to replace.
