17s Teams of the Show Me State: Part II

Back is one of the top liberos in Kansas City, [player_tooltip player_id='150046' first='Claire' last='Mosh']. The all-state libero will anchor the defense. [player_tooltip player_id='216466' first='Kendall' last='Johnson'] had what we would call a breakout year this fall for Platte County and will be counted on to score some points. [player_tooltip player_id='216020' first='Ryanne' last='Wattree'] and [player_tooltip player_id='124853' first='Mikalah' last='Davis'] are two athletic pins who can play high above the net. [player_tooltip player_id='261106' first='Grace' last='Schmedding'] and [player_tooltip player_id='216387' first='Lauren' last='Jacobs'] bring their winning edge with them from Heritage Christian, where they have won three consecutive state titles. 6'1" middle [player_tooltip player_id='216471' first='Autumn' last='Erickson'] shined this fall for Staley. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2>Apex 17-1</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Apex is another one of those teams that won't be able to catch anyone by surprise after a solid showing in 2022. They qualified for the HOA Power League this season and hope to make their mark by the time it's all said and done. [player_tooltip player_id='150038' first='Mollie' last='Thomas'] is a do it all player who has shined indoors and on the beach. She is able to lead the team from the setter position or swing when necessary. [player_tooltip player_id='124851' first='Isabella' last='Faria'] (Bella) did her thing again this fall with over 300 kills from the pin position. Look for her to continue as a scoring machine for this club. Republic teammates Addison Fanning and Alaina Norman will attempt to leave their mark this spring. [player_tooltip player_id='495283' first='Tatum' last='Kuntz'] had over 600 digs this fall. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2>Tamales 17-1</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Tamales 17-1 qualified for Power League this winter and are a team on the rise behind solid ball control and a quick offense. Reagan Greenway led the offense for Kickapoo this fall and will attempt to bring that same leadership to the table for the Springfield-based team in 2023. [player_tooltip player_id='495297' first='Paige' last='Pearcy'] will be key in the ball control we mentioned before after contributing to the defensive specialist position for Nixa. The team has a lot of young players they will count on with Ava Owens in the middle and Lilly Maupin and [player_tooltip player_id='219785' first='Anistyn' last='Stennett'] on the pins. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2>417 Columbia 17-1</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>417 Columbia went 4-4 last week in the 17 Club division at the Kansas City MLK tournament. Middle Lauren Bartlett is a player who has the ability to be a difference-maker in the middle for this team. Mya Clapp had a very good fall for Rock Bridge on the pin with just under 200 kills. Another player in the middle who can do damage is Kyndra Collier from Hickman. She has good size and moves well along the front row. Recent William Woods commit and defender Taylor Johnson will help keep the floor clean. OH Olivia Randolph has shown flashes she can fill up the stat sheet on the pin. Amber Samson brings her championship pedigree to the roster defensively. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2>Mavs 816 17-1</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Mavs 816 returns in 2023 with some new faces along with some old ones. [player_tooltip player_id='150042' first='Avery' last='Ashby'] makes the move over to help increase the scoring volume for this team after doing her thing at St. Pius X this fall. [player_tooltip player_id='216401' first='Ava' last='Hefner'] was productive for state-qualifying Blue Valley West during her junior campaign. [player_tooltip player_id='216468' first='Ava' last='Rann'] and Hailey Laurent will work defensively to take away angles and cover ground. [player_tooltip player_id='150040' first='Zaira' last='Kearns'] and [player_tooltip player_id='495645' first='Ellie' last='Suber'] are setters on this roster.
