This is a huge mash-up of North Texas teams and Lone Star Region Teams and should be a good recruiting opportunity because of the high levels of competition. From heavy hitters to sniper setters, this age group has it all and then some. Below we have highlighted a few players that are on our must-watchlist for the 16’s age group.
Sophia Thornburg Sophia Thornburg 6'3" | OH Ursuline Academy | 2025 State TX / Drive Nation 16 Red
A new name to me this club season, Sophia Thornburg Sophia Thornburg 6'3" | OH Ursuline Academy | 2025 State TX is a heavy hitting outside hitter. Her 6’2 size alone makes her a formidable opponent. She has been playing mostly 6 rotations for Drive Nation 16 Red, which is stacked with talent all the way around. Sophie does a good job of making herself stand out with smart aggressive swings. She has a diverse offensive toolbox, and I have seen her place the ball all over the court with accuracy.
Sarah Pfiffner Sarah Pfiffner 5'11" | S Wakeland | 2025 State TX / TAV 16 Black
I am excited to see lefty setter Sarah Pfiffner Sarah Pfiffner 5'11" | S Wakeland | 2025 State TX this season. She does a great job of feeding her hitters the ball all over the court and runs a variety of plays with ease. She has a great second-ball attack. She hides her setter attack very well and is successful with the second contact swing. She uses her height and vertical to combine for a really lethal swing at the net. After a successful season at Wakeland, her speed and quick sets have improved to make her one of the elite setters in her age group.
Sydney Bryant Sydney Bryant 6'3" | OH George Ranch | 2025 State #26 Nation TX / HJV 16 Elite
Outside hitter Sydney Bryan will be in attendance this weekend at Tour of Texas. The 6’4 pin hitter has a lot of length hitting and passing, and after a successful high school season, she has increased her volleyball IQ and has become more dominant on the court. The middle-turned-pin hitter has been improving her game over the last year and has turned herself into a force on the court. Her incredible reach and contact point when she hits is hard to defend.
Callie Krueger Callie Krueger 5'5" | DS/L Cedar Park | 2025 State #22 Nation TX / Austin Skyline 16 Royal
Callie is a libero out of the Austin area who plays for Austin Skyline. This will be my first opportunity to see her live this weekend. Callie has a very good read in left-back and makes amazing defensive plays. She reads a short tip very well from any position and makes the play with ease. She also does a great job of digging a quick set out of the middle, which a lot of liberos struggle with. She uses any part of her body to make the dig and give her team a chance at the point.
Parker Duncan Parker Duncan 6'0" | OH Anderson | 2025 State TX / Austin Juniors 16 Adidas
Outside hitter Parker Duncan Parker Duncan 6'0" | OH Anderson | 2025 State TX is a new face to me, but after her performance last weekend, she should definitely be on my watch list! She is posting double-digit kills almost every match, and with her height and verticle, I can see why. Parker flies above the opposing block and loves to run a fast offense. She can beat the block with her fast arm swing or take the ball down the line with ease. She is a lethal force to be reckoned with on the court.
