Continue ReadingThis past weekend some awesome players gathered under one roof in Austin and went into battle in impressive fashion. Nothing marks the true start of the season for me like the Tour of Texas does. We are blessed to have some of the best talent in the nation in our wonderful state. It is truly a site to see when the best decide to put their talent to the test so early in the season against other top teams and see where they stand and what they need to work on for qualifier season later on in the year. Iron truly does sharpen iron when this occurs and Prep Dig was lucky enough to see it in person. What will follow is a series of articles of individual players who stood out while competing at a high level. Let’s meet a few of the standouts.
Kennedy Crayton Kennedy Crayton 5'8" | OH Allen | 2026 State TX [2026] 5-7 Outside (HS: Allen/Club: Madfrog /Verbal: Uncommitted)
Kennedy is currently an unranked prospect in the 2026 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings, but that will for sure change once I update them in a few weeks. She plays high school volleyball for Allen High School and club for the famed Madfrog volleyball club. I need TSA to help me write this article because Miss Crayton uses her frequent flyer miles a lot. She lives in the air when she steps on the court. I was in awe of her amazing vertical and hang time when she attacked the ball. If you decide to sleep on her because of her height, she will make you sorry for it from the first attempt to attack. Kennedy is someone who I have had on my watch list all high school season due to her awesome stats playing varsity as a freshman. Watching her in person is a sight to see and I think she has a very high ceiling in her craft. This young lady has so much control over the ball in both passing and attacking. Her awesome hand contact allows her to move the ball anywhere she wants to with ease. Defensively she is so fast on the court that she can cover a lot of ground if needed. All college coaches should have her name written on their short lists.
Alissa Gregory-Obiedo Alissa Gregory-Obiedo 5'10" | OH Sotomayor | 2024 State TX [2024] 5-10 Outside (HS: Sotomayor/Club: Impact/ Verbal: Uncommitted)
Alissa is currently an unranked prospect according to the 2024 Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but is on my watch list to potentially be ranked with what I saw in person. She is a stud left side attacker that plays for Sotomayor High School and also club for Impact out of the San Antonio area. I have watched this team for the past couple of years and they have some serious stars. In the match that I watched on Saturday, Alissa shined super bright. Her offensive abilities were on full display as she hammered balls around the block to score for her squad. I was super impressed with her technical picturesque approach as she truly uses her arms during her upswing very well to get as high as she can. She also contacts the ball at the true peak of her touch by getting her arm well above her head to strike. This will help her stay aggressive versus the block because then they must have perfect timing in order to try to slow her down. She is making a name for herself this club season and she deserves a look with what I saw against some stellar competition.
Blair Thiebaud Blair Thiebaud 5'11" | S College Station | 2026 State TX [2026] 5-10 Setter (HS: College Station/Club: Houston Skyline/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Blair is currently an unranked prospect in the 2026 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but that will change in a few weeks when I update them. Miss Thiebaud plays at College Station High School and also for the awesome Houston Skyline volleyball club program. She travels into Houston for every practice in order to get the great training at her club and it is paying off huge dividends in her skills. This past high school season, Blair was one of the best freshman setters on a varsity squad from the looks of her production on paper. I was very intrigued to see her in person against the best of the best at the Tour and I was not disappointed in what I witnessed. She has every tool imaginable in a prototypical elite setter and dazzles in how she runs her offense. The ball is moved to all hitters so effortlessly by her soft and quick hand contact. The way she glides around the court like a ghost is just beautiful to watch. I loved how she jump set every location so that it fooled the defense and they couldn’t cheat to one hitter. She has the chance to be listed very high on the Rankings with what I saw and I cannot wait to cover her again at their next tourney. Stay tuned for more.
