As we continue to dive into different clubs we head back over to the west side of the state to look at MVA.

A talented club with a lot of college prospects throughout its program, MVA is eager to prove it compete with the best clubs in the state for 2023.

Starting at the 18s, MVA is highlighted by the top 2024 prospect in Michigan.

Kelly Delacher brings his many years of coaching experience to this squad of athletic and long players. MVA 18 Black features five players that can touch 10 feet or higher.

2024 setter [player_tooltip player_id='110292' first='Zoey' last='Dood'] (Virginia) is going to be the one running the offense. Dood is a 6'2” setter with a 7'11” reach and a 10'2” jump. She's very quick and has a high court IQ. She really brings the complete package to the position.

On the outside, MVA has [player_tooltip player_id='140476' first='Meredith' last='Simmons'] (Indianapolis), [player_tooltip player_id='108759' first='Raegan' last='Lantz'] (Miami-Ohio), [player_tooltip player_id='66324' first='Shelby' last='Porter'] (Northern Kentucky) and [player_tooltip player_id='173627' first='Reagan' last='Doctor'] (Aquinas) all to work with. Lantz, Porter and Doctor are all 6 foot and up and two can touch over 10 feet. They have a lot of explosive power that can run a fast offense off Dood's setting. Simmons is a talented all-around player that doesn't have the same length as her teammates, but makes up for it with consistency and defensive play.

In the middle, Aubriegh Oswald and Maureen Winstanley add even more height and size to the front row. These two are working hard to make a name for themselves this club season as a pair of uncommitted, yet very talented, middles.

Defense should be a strength for MVA this year as well. 2024 libero [player_tooltip player_id='110279' first='Gianna' last='Bender'] is playing up a year to lead the back row. She is coming off a big year at Hudsonville, where she was among the state's dig leaders. She is joined by DS' [player_tooltip player_id='140477' first='Madi' last='Derby'] and Makynna Crook (Milwaukee SOE).

Thus far into 2023, MVA 18 Black has been sitting around .500. Their 7th-place finish at the JVA Rock ‘N Rumble included all three losses coming in three sets.

It will take some time for this group to gel, but it's clear that they have a very high ceiling. Their offensive firepower is deep and robust. Their defensive talent is very reliable and full of hard-working players. By the end of the club season, look for MVA to pull off some upsets and move up the rankings.
