Continue ReadingOne of the most anticipated tournaments at the beginning of each club season is the Triple Crown NIT because of all of the talent that will be under one roof. It will be held in Kansas City, MO on February 18-20th. We have quite a few of our wonderful California teams that will be present to showcase their skills amongst the nations best. We will be previewing some of these teams and telling college scouts which players they should be watching out for. This article will cover the explosive Mizuno Long Beach 16 Rockstar squad. Even though we can write about each and every athlete that contributes to their success, I am only going to cover a few players that are standing out to me in the beginning of the season. Let’s meet a few of them.
Layli Ostovar Layli Ostovar 5'11" | OH Mater Dei | 2026 State CA [2026] 5-11 Outside (HS: Mater Dei/Club: Mizuno Long Beach/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Layli is currently an unranked prospect in the state according to the 2026 Prep Dig California State Rankings, but that is only because we have not released them yet. She will be one of the top players on the list for sure once I release them. She plays for Mater Dei High School and plays club for Mizuno Long Beach. We have covered this young lady before and every amazing word we have used to describe her has been warranted when it comes to her play. I see lightning in a bottle when I watch her play. She is one of the most explosive players in the entire state of California and every recruiter is taking notice. The scary part for everyone is she is only a freshman. Her future potential and ceiling is through the roof in my opinion. She comes from an amazing sports family and they are all very supportive of each other. Not many freshman are able to make varsity and break through the lineup at Mater Dei, but Layli was an exception for sure. She brings the same energy, intensity and firepower to this awesome club team from the left side position. She is a true six-rotation pin attacker who could be one of the best in her age group for years to come. Stay tuned for more on Miss Ostovar.
Jamie Deines [2025] 5-11 Middle (HS: Redondo Union/Club: Mizuno Long Beach/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Jamie is currently an unranked prospect in the 2025 class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings. She plays at Redondo Union High School and also club for the Mizuno Long Beach program. Miss Deines has been a wall for 16 Rockstar this season at the net. Her blocks have not only slowed her opponents down but also scored with stuff blocks also. She uses a mix of great court vision, impeccable timing and awesome strength in her press to seal the net from would be scorers. I love how she takes away space from opposing attackers by pressing her arms over the net. Miss Deines also has a cannon for an arm and she unleashes it on quick attempts in front of her setter. They like to run her on the thirty-one set to create spacing issues with the opposing block and she runs that route to perfection with quick timing. We will be watching her very closely at this tourney to see where she falls on the watch list/rankings.
Leah Ivy [2025] 5-9 Setter (HS: Jserra Catholic/Club: Mizuno Long Beach/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Leah is currently an unranked prospect in the 2025 class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings. She plays at Jserra Catholic High School and also club for Mizuno Long Beach. The lefty setter has been instrumental in helping this squad stay aggressive with her stellar serving. She has some serious pop on the ball and has been acing teams off of the court. When she doesn’t actually score an ace with it, it still seems to keep her opponent off balance and out of system, which leads to easier transition offense for her team. She seems to have a very good understanding of hand contact and how it pertains to controlling the ball. I love how accurate she is with her sets to all locations along the net, but her bread and butter set has to be when she is able to deliver it to the right side. It is in a great location for her opposite to be able to hit both line and angle. We will be watching her production closely at the tourney in Kansas City.
Other notable players for this legit roster are super strong lefty pin attacker Sunni Skipps Sunni Skipps 5'11" | RS Leadership & Public Service Virtual Academy | 2025 State CA who provides a solid scoring option in any position she plays. She is fully capable of hitting well on the left side or the right side. Right side Lalelei Hall Lalelei Hall 6'0" | RS Lakewood | 2025 State CA who provides a solid swing on the opposite pin to help balance out the offense. She uses her ability to move the ball around in order to score for her squad. Setter Ayva Ostovar Ayva Ostovar 5'6" | S Mater Dei | 2025 State CA is super fast and extremely athletic in the position. She uses her explosive fast twitch muscles to push the ball to the pins. Don’t sleep on her size because she will make you pay. DS/Libero Kayla Ostovar Kayla Ostovar 5'6" | DS/L Mater Dei | 2025 State CA has been a stud in the back row and uses some great court vision to put herself in the best position to play the ball. I love how she will give her all in full pursuit of the ball and will dive on the floor if need be in order to keep her team in the rally. DS/Libero Tiana Shaw has also been stellar keeping her team in the rally in a ton of matches. Her ball control in serve receive has been outstanding. Outside hitter Pressley Kiffin has some great hops and uses a lightning fast arm swing to score for her team. We will be highlighting these young ladies and others from this team in another article after the tournament that we will watch in person. Stay tuned for more from this beast of a team.
